Incorrect, that is not how Nielsen ratings work. In the homes that Nielsen gathers data from, each individual is counted and their TV viewing is tracked separately. If two people watch GoT it will count both. This way the data is normalized and viewership can be expressed in terms of people watching, with breakdowns by age and gender. The reason this is done is for the benefit of advertisers.

 

So again, the audience for GoT is much smaller than some think. It is not all that and a bag of chips. TV viewership is very fractured, the era of hit shows that draw massive audiences is long over.

With actuals, it will probably be more like 2.26-2.27x to beat Avatar. IW also didn’t generate the level of audience enthusiasm this is getting. Yes it still could be massively frontloaded and fall off a cliff, but beating Avatar WW is like an 80% chance now, which is absurd. The fact is that IWs DOM and WW multis easily give it the all time record in both cases.

That's an absolutely ludicrous number. I guess it goes to show that whatever you think the maximum theater capacity is, they'll find a way to make it bigger if they think it's worth it.

Nielsen doesnt work well for premium cable channels, that why they report what the channel tells them, and HBO report accounts. Sky UK also report accounts only for its NowTV service.

 

Nielsen hasnt worked well for some years, its very outdated in todays streaming, internet, STB and timeshifting age.

I think it's 50/50,  I get your point otherwise, I just think there's a high chance of worldwide demand being burned off too quickly.

I can attest to that. The theater I went to is one of those dinner theaters where you can order food while watching the movie. And not only was the showing delayed by a few minutes to clean up the auditorium from the previous show, it took until the movie was half over for everybody to put their orders in.
