Monday Numbers: TSLOP2 $4.60M | Aladdin $3.19M | Dark Phoenix $2.48M | Godzilla KOTM $1.67M

Who would have guessed Aladdin would be the surprise mega-hit of the summer? It needs just 20 more days like Monday to hit $300M which is over 3x the amount some thought it would gross. A small drop this weekend looks very likely then it will have the drive-in double feature bounce when TS4 releases the weekend after that. The film’s march to $300M is now the most interesting box office run to track at present.

I won't be surprised if it ends up with a 4x at the rate it's going. TS4 double features will help it out big time next weekend and could keep it in the Top 5 if Child's Play and Anna open low enough.

Unless you like tracking films not doing well Aladdin is about the only game in town right now.

Certainly doesn't sound like that is likely to change this upcoming weekend given the pre-sales for the new releases

Drive-ins still exist??? Anyway, yes that is true. Aladdin's little journey since inception HAS been one of the most interesting rides to follow in big-film history. The ups and downs, mostly downs, of the social media buzz and faux controversies seemed to sink a film that should have been a smash from the start. An unsung "hero" is always fun to watch.

BUT does it get any money from double features with TS4 or TLK? Doesn't the primary movie get the $$$ for it?

KOTM

1.67, 80.1m

2.51 (+50%) 82.61m

1.46 (-42%) 84.07m

1.23 (-16%) 85.30m

1.91 (+55%)

3.00 (+55%)

2.85 (-5%)

= 7.76 (-50%) 93m+

If it adds 1.8x this weekend to the cume,

93 + 7.76*1.8 = 107m dom

When both movies are frome the same studio, I think the studio has the discretion to choose where to allocate the funds. These situations have bee jsed to help push certain films over milestones whenever needed.

This past weekend, I debated taking the family to a Aladdin/XDP douvke feature. I was wondering how Disney maybe account for those type of situations. Do they care enough about Xmen to give it any sort of boost.

Disney needs to fast track Little Mermaid but I don't think it will be out in time for the summer of 2021. Maybe November 2021. But it is definitely more of a summer time hit. The little kiddie merchandise for summer activities that would go along with the movie would make it the biggest thing in whatever summer it comes out.

They are starting very early production now. IF they could start filming in the fall or winter they could get it out in May 2021. Doubtful though. Filming is supposed to start early next year.

It's like a cute little mini Titanic (which was also a story of a poor boy falling in love with a pretty and rich girl)

Predicted to 100% bomb from the very beginning, everyone had their knives out, it would flop but good WOM and legs save the day

Interesting how I've read some people here complaining about movies nowadays being a lot more frontloaded and wish to see more leggy films cause it's "more exciting"

and then comes this film that nobody expected to fulfill that wish

Hmm... I guess the trick is to have flying scenes and dolphins jumping.

uh... you're seriously comparing Aladdin's legs to Titanic?

aladdin is doing well but it will finish probably just over 3x multi. which is pretty standard for family film albeit it opened well.

And Aladdin was huge right out of the gate. $117m in opening holiday weekend. Not really the same thing.
