Sci-fi is not a big draw. Edited October 27, 2019 by Purple Minion
Omni
The superhero genre kind of ruined people's interest towards sci-fi (which has never been that high btw). 1

I have to agree The superhero genre kind of ruined people's interest towards sci-fi and traditional action films in general.
keysersoze123
I think there will be interest for the right sci-fi. This is a tired franchise. We have had so many movies with Robotic villians(including SH movies) and having Arnold and Linda shows they are just aiming for nostalgia. I am confident Tenet will be big next year and that is not a SH movie.
Valonqar
I don't think SH ruined interest in sci fi as Gravity, Martian, Inception, Interstellar all did well during SH reign. It's just that hard sci fi (BR2049) and shit fi (Alien prequels) don't click with masses. Agreed that Tenet will be big. Nolan brand is popular dom and OS. @Purple Minion Thanks for your input! Really appreciated! Edited October 27, 2019 by Valonqar

And the marketing campaign has been basically non existant, at least here in Brazil. Franchise burnout. It had to be exceptionally great to even start doing well. Or actually be directed by Cameron. scabab
This is why all we get is the same boring superhero movies over and over again.

Yes, what we really need is constant inferior rehashes of Terminator and Terminator 2. That's original cinema! I don't like it when original or semi original Sci Fi disappoints at the box office. Terminator is not that at this point. It is a dead body that production companies keep digging up.
Darth Lehnsherr
I do agree that with the big market share Marvel and DC have that it's hard for new franchises to start. But not sure we need to be lamenting at that with regards to Terminator 6. Something like Alita sure I understand.

WeneedtotalkaboutKevin
I know it is a bit early. But, based on the OS records so far, can we now certify that Dark Fate is one of the biggest bombs of the year? GEN OS-China was 237. Assuming same legs and -35% across OS-China, DF gets to 154. Say no drop in China from ~105 and that gives DF ~260 OS compared to 342+ of GEN. If it opens to 41-42 Dom and legs it to 115 (2.7-2.8x) then reaches 375 WW.
