Here is a quick Friday tally of the two Regal complexes (20 screens at one and 18 screens including IMAX at the other) near me for Friday’s two openers. Both currently only have four showings each for sale but I expect a second screen to open up for both films on Friday.

Regal #1 (no IMAX but 21+ in half the screens)

Bros: 8 (+3 since yesterday)

Smile: 0

Regal #2 (IMAX complex but no 21+ screens)

Bros: 6 (+1)

Smile: 32 (+2)

No Bros trailer but it was surprisingly very good. Funnier than The Lost City.

It opened to the equivalent of $30m here, so we’ll see. No doubt it’ll open to $19m in America since that’s the new trend lol.

Wakanda Forever showtimes are starting to populate (though obvs not for sale yet).

3pm previews, and there's gonna be a shit-ton of them if the three Cinemarks that are already up are any indication.

===

No sign yet of the double feature, so I don't know if that's starting earlier or not.

ETA:

The double feature is listed as BLACK PANTHER DOUBLE FEATURE (2022) on Fandango, for those who use that for their tracking (and purchasing).  Still none in the Sacto area, FWIW.

I know there’s still a few days to go, but could this suggest previews over $2m? And perhaps a $20m+ weekend?

Alright, so the Fandango app isn't reliable anymore.  I ended up doing today's run twice because I couldn't believe there were so few new sales.  Looks like I'll have to go back to using the site.  It added about an hour to the process though, so I don't know if I'll have time to track as many movies.  Not all doom and gloom for this weekend though on a positive note.

Halloween Ends (No Comps)

Oct 13/14 (T-15 Thurs, T-16 Fri)

SW/Toronto Ontario

  # theatre #show Seats Sold Seats Rem Ttl seat Percent
Thurs 18 66 52 12556 12608 0.004
Fri 8 24 59 16067 16126 0.003

No comps, but a direct eyeball compared to Smile's first day of sales I have, Halloween has almost as much seats sold for Thurs on first day of sales, as smile has at T-2 Thurs this week (52/60). For Friday 59 to Smile's 100.

I am going to speculate that perhaps why SW/Toronto just isn't digging Smile is they were for Halloween tickets. Will do Smile numbers later today now that the Wed seat drop has occurred.

At this point, I'll be impressed if Bros makes it to double digits. I didn't do a deep dive but yeah it's well behind Smile.

I'd say maybe $8m for Bros and $15m for Smile?

Yeah, it's looking weak with it getting only one screen at even 24 screen theaters I've checked (Smile on the other hand is getting 3-4 screens during the night at many places). Think it's settling for an opening similar to The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent at most at this point.

Now, comedian and actor Billy Eichner is taking a stab at the feel-good genre with “Bros,” an R-rated romantic comedy that opens in 3,300 North American theaters on Friday. The movie, from Universal Pictures, is aiming to generate $8 million to $10 million in its opening weekend. It’s not a huge number, but the film carries a modest $22 million production budget.

“Bros” is debuting in theaters alongside Paramount’s R-rated chiller “Smile,” which is projected to cast a toothy glow over the domestic box office charts with $16 million to $20 million. That’s a stellar result given that it only cost the studio $17 million to make.

Not much of an update from me except the two Regals I frequent have both given a second screen to both Bros and Smile just as I expected they would. The second screen for Smile also happens to be the largest auditorium at both sites. Very little change in the pre-sales since yesterday, though.
