Weekend thread 7/15-7/17 | Actuals: Thor 4 46.63M, Minions 26.83, Crawdads 17.25, TGM 12.26, Elvis 8, Paws of Fury 6.31

Recommended Posts

Thurs and Fri came in stronger than expected for Thor .

Playing like black widow sat and sun gets it to 44m

Playing like antman 2 gets it to 47.5m

Personally go for around 46m

Playing like FFH onwards gets it 330m.

325m+ final.

Yea looking like 330-340m for Thor, which is solid. Let's see what the future MCU films do, BP2 will most likely disappoint, Ant Man won't come near these numbers and GotG 3 might do similar/slightly better numbers and the Marvels isn't a lock for 400m either.

BOM schedule saying Marcel was going wide this week. Has the definition of wide changed?

It was originally supposed to be wide this week but they probably saw that the release schedule is about to dry up soon (especially with a slow-looking August coming up) so might as well continue the solid expansion and go wide when it won't face nearly as much competition.

According to the international thread, Thor Love and Thunder might just barely cross the 700m mark worldwide which is not that good at all for a film with a 250m budget plus likely a 150m+ in worldwide marketing. It will be profitable in the end but not by that much.   Glad this movie is underperforming. Marvel clearly thinks they are invincible and can just toss out whatever crap on screen and expect it to do a billion. Audiences and critics are responding “no”

So by the same logic Minions is doing bad as well selling less ticket than the badly received 2015 film?

Minions expectations were not that high, its outperformed what we expected, Thor was expected to do considerably better than Ragnarok since you know its been 5 years and Thor got much more popular with IW/EG and it has an empty summer to play with it

It's so simple about Crawdads.

(Male) critics hate sentimental movies,  I mean unapologetically sentimental movies. That's a genre, so they should be able to distinguish the better from the worst movies in this genre but they hated everything from Pretty Woman to Ghost until The Notebook and The greatest Showman.

And those are literally the most loved unapologetically sentimental movies of all time.

When you read the critics list of best gangster movies the 90% of it is the same of the most beloved movies by audiences.

When you read the critics list of the best sentimental movies well they are nor really sentimental cause that is weak,  you got these romantic indie movies nobody cares about lol

Crawdads is a perfect produced movie not only for fan of the book but for all the fan of the genre.

People tell me there's a plan but man..   not sure now.  So far phase 4 just a bunch of random average (or even bad) solos.   X-Men and/or FF can't come soon enough.

BP2 will crush Thor, GOTG3 will beat it as well. Marvels and Ant-Man are wildcards.

Of course, if the quality/reception continues to be DS2/L&T levels, all bets are off.

Thor: L&T is not meeting expectations. After Strange 2, this  is a trend that will hopefully not be followed by BP2.

Missing China box office is not helping the optics. China would have helped with the final numbers to look better

a $340m finish means less tickets sold than Ragnarok, i don't see how that is a good number

340m is just a meh number considering it could have been worse but I wouldn't call it solid .2.36* legs are still shit legs for summer movie with strong weekdays.

Still underwhelming numbers for Thor 4  overall .

Quote

Netflix/AGBO’s Ryan Gosling/Chris Evans/Ana de Armas spy film Gray Man which is getting a promotional one-week theatrical play near 400 locations is coming up significantly short in ticket sales next to Red Notice. That Dwayne Johnson-Gal Gadot-Ryan Reynolds action heist film chalked up between $1.25M-$1.5M in its opening weekend at 750 locations. This was during a fall when the box office was beginning to get back on its feet and more auditoriums were available because we didn’t have as many blockbusters around then as we do now. Gray Man is estimated to be doing just under $200K according to distribution sources. Again, the streamer doesn’t care, nor do they report figures. It’s all about maintaining subscribers and possibly adding new ones after this $200M+ investment hits the service on Friday. Even though this movie is at 52% on Rotten Tomatoes, ya gotta think if it was a wide theatrical release, it would be raining an additional $10M-$20M in box office cash on exhibition. They’d gladly take it.

Okay.

pretty woman 51 on metacritic

ant man 2 70 on metacritic

the first a classic for the ages as Breakfast at Tiffanys (only 76 on metcritic cause you know over sentimental romantic movie with a woman as lead), the other just a forgettable tv episode on the screen.
