Beetlejuice 2 MTC1

Early Shows(9/4) - 18356/89929 392051.60 375 shows

Previews(T-16) - 39927/704635 739688.84 3576 shows

Friday - 32156/1068024 581488.11 5343 shows

Its really promising where it is this far out. I am thinking its going for 2.5m early shows and 12m thursday only at this point. If the final week push is strong this could be a 100m opener.

$14.5M combined previews would be more than Inside Out 2…

Gotta be honest this sounds less like a $100M opener and more like a September record $130M+ opener, even a Shang-Chi IM gets it to $124.3M and that’s MCU

A few points:

-Growth is steady. The needle has moved daily in small increments.

-Comps are a mess. Bad Boys and Ghostbusters only came online today. Those numbers will settle in the days ahead, but still will be favorable for Beetlejuice.

-Im using $6.5M for Romulus until we get confirmed actuals. It's a film that appears to have overindexed here, so helps moderate things a bit.

-This still exceeds comps I throw at it. I'm debating at throwing Dune 2 in there just to give it something it'll struggle against, but it seems far too different.

-Other options like GxK and HG: BoSS come online in about a week. I may try those.

Comparaison with Dune 2 and G&K is the best for now

Dune 2 MTC1

Early shows(2/25) - 27054/55706 540153.90 182 shows +743

Previews(T-14) - 54809/516459 1085794.11 2579 shows +2353

Friday - 50240/795393 994937.86 4005 shows +2251

Beetlejuice is also at the same level as G&K between T-7 and T-8 for Friday and T-6 for Previews. We don't have pace but with Dune 2 overperformed in MTC1 and G&K numbers , i think 90M will happen , maybe 100M depending of WOM and maybe the help of National Cinema Day.

Coraline is already getting full show times again for this weekend at most MTC1 theatres. I don’t think it’s just a one week event anymore. Which makes sense. Why would they leave money on the table?

At this point they should just go ahead and give the movie a general release run. I remember deadline was saying the movie will debut in over 2500 locations but turns out that is not true. The movie still playing in just 1500+, probably an expansion coming this weekend?

National cinema day will not be on Beetlejuice opening weekend

Are there any rumors of NCD actually happening this year? The box office seems to be in less of a need of a discount boost than it was at this time over the past two years and with so many potential heavy-hitters on the horizon through the end of the year, I doubt studios want anything that would diminish an opening (which would happen with heavily discounted prices) vs. enhancing it.

yeah no way WB would sign off on that.  There might just not be one this year or on Labor Day weekend if they do but not that Sept 6th weekend.

12m Thurs probably gets it there even without a massive push. Shang chi had an 8.57x IM but that’s a MCU flick so Beetlejuice should be closer to 9-9.5x

That means u/RelevationAnimations was completely correct when he said Beetlejuice Beetlejuice over IT domestic total

Edit, this is what he said back in May: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - $124M OW / $347M DOM

Not this again…

This isn’t Reddit.

I am no mod but I feel in this thread I am kind of.

With all due respect, none of us know what those random usernames mean, so when you say XYZ says this, it means nothing to us. Feel free to share what you feel about anything.

This is still a sequel and has stronger start out of the gate than Shang Chi did. Last time when I expected "Keaton walkups" it did not end up very well :sparta:Thankfully this movie has Jenny Ortega instead of Ezra Effing Miller.

There is also Dune comp which was insanely frontloaded from presales perspective(it was leggy post release). I dont think beetlejuice should have run like that but I am not expecting it to behave like Zilla or Twisters either. So I am going to  be conservative until close to release.

Anyway

Beetlejuice 2 MTC2

Early Shows - 11046/35038 187157.11 214 shows

Previews(T-16) - 25044/527179 366318.54 3768 shows

Really strong this far out for sure. its good that this is not going to over index at MTC1.

@Eric Ripley just for clarification u/RelevationAnimations is not just a random Reddit user he is actually @Relevation on this forum and that $124 OW/$347M DOM prediction was a prediction he made on BOT, not Reddit. I just decided to refer to him by his Reddit name instead of his BOT name, but ok next time I'll refer to him by his BOT name not his Reddit name. I was genuinely trying to congratulate him. Sorry.

Last year NCD was on the 27th, and earliest announcement of that I can find is on August 21st. From a theatre perspective, it's a staffing nightmare, so we'd know by now if it was happening this weekend.

The logical date is still Sunday, September 1st. Sunday is better than Saturday. I don't think anything is up for pre-sales for that weekend, at least through MTC4.

If chains are going through with it, and follow similar patterns as last year, we'll get an announcement early next week, but you probably will see rumblings about it a day or two before.

The fact that this hasn't become a regular and predictable event after a few presumably successful efforts means we can't assume it's taking place. But I can't see why theatres wouldn't be 100% game on this. Concession sales are likely through the roof. There's limited sales that you're really diverting away from regular priced sales at this stage. The bulk of tickets sold would be going to things that have been in theatres for weeks or months.

The Crow, counted today for tomorrow, had 276 sold tickets (with shows in 7 theaters). Best presales in the AMC in LA (103 sold tickets) followed by the AMC in NY (76).

Up ok 69% since Monday.

Comps (always counted on Wednesday of the release week for Thursday): Expend4bles (750k from previews) had 156 sold tickets = 1.3M.

The Watchers (1M) had 170 = 1.6M.

Strangers (1.2M) had 360 sold tickets = 0.9M.

(Bikeriders (?/9.7M OW) had 208 sold tickets

and Borderlands (1.32M) finally (= on Thursday for Thursday) had 661 sold tickets.)

Average (without Bikeriders and Borderlands): 1.25M. Exactly the same number as on Monday.
