Love this line from the Variety box office report. It should just be retitled "We just want to be the first to publish"

Based on Friday matinee sales, industry observers estimated the launch frame for the U.S. would finish between $130 million to $150 million domestically.

The ranges being thrown out today are amazing. 10-20M ranges.

Those early numbers should be taken with a grain of salt, but unless tomorrows box office improves, someone was going to start a thread called Hunger Games: Catching Fire: What Went Wrong regardless.

It'll be locked.  No film that opens to 130-150 mill is worthy of a WWW thread, and the only thing that went wrong is people's inflated and unrealistic expectations.

that would look so bad on their part. No way

Why not dominate March/April like HG did instead of getting two weekends at the box office before you're considered old news (like all the Potter and Twilight films)? The 130-150 figure in Variety could indicate a somewhat steep decline from HG. I guess the franchise peaked in curiosity/popularity last year. Edited by Gopher

What about Delivery Man? -_-

As for this weekend’s other wide release, DreamWorks’ Vince Vaughn comedy is failing to deliver. “Delivery Man,” a remake of the 2011 French-Canadian hit “Starbuck,” is poised for a soft $9 million opening.
