Exchange rates are actually unfavorable compared to the DM2 days.

Very true, but that Minions overseas gross is just so insane. If DM3 can keep that audience, it will get there no problem.

great trailer - dare we hope that this franchise goes the TS3 route in quality (like it or not) instead of the Shrek 3 route?

 

gross wise unless there is a miracle DM2 was the peak Domestically (see Shrek for the pattern) but OS has potential, particularly if the exchange rates become more favorable between now and next summer.

Incidentally I watched Bigger Longer & Uncut at the weekend. Twice. It holds up so well, what a genuinely great musical.

I'd be interested in seeing Trey and Matt actually make a kids show/movie. They're great at moralizing without being condescending and they balance their cynicism about the present with a steadfast hope for the future. Probably a reason South Park is still going strong.

Yeah. His daughter is apparently the current voice of Ike, too.

Ok, I unabashedly loved that trailer. If it can be that fun and zany throughout then this will easily be Illumination's best to date. Also the lack of Minions in the trailer was a much needed breath of fresh air for the franchise.

Despicable Me 2 is still the best Ilumination film to date, Sing slightly behind it. Hopefully this can top it, and the trailer looks quite promising.

Simple, the main characters like Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, does give the DM-Movies someone to root for, and the side characters like the minions gives a lot of appeal to families. That's why the movies strike at the box-office.

 

Anyone who doesn't know or even get this franchise's appeal, needs to figure it out sooner or later or otherwise rest in a corner.
