Oh good a lets make fun of Dunham cause shes overweight post

The thing is that Dunham seems to be an exhibitionist with as much as she gets naked on Girls, so nasty comments about her appearance are being brought on by her insistence on taking her clothes off.

And the nudity is never essential to a scene.  She just does it because she likes it.

Why is that? Here in Sweden, you get January releases in the yearly top ten fairly often (2013, 2012 and 2010 all had one January release in the top ten).

Domestic box office is different, if you're lucky there'll be one in the top 10 from January, February, April (This year it has the East holiday so Cap will make an exception), September, and October (2014 has the LEGO Movie which honestly might have done even better in say the currently empty July, 2013 you had Gravity which speaks more of the film than the month it was released in)

Sure, you release an appealing film, people will go see it any time of the year, but certain weekends and months will benefit its box office more than others.

But are those January releases in Sweden big budget December releases in America?

cos she got a tv show.

i like it, but other people don't and think she's worse than hitler because she gets naked or something.

I don't think people hate that she gets naked, they hate that everyone associated with the show acts as though they are changing the world thanks to the show which less than a million people watch regularly. I think more people comment on the show on twitter than actually watch it.

The recent TCA controversy did not help the show either. http://defamer.gawker.com/question-about-lena-dunhams-nudity-sparks-rage-spiral-1498637627

Some are, yes. Others are Swedish films. But then the box office here can be quite different in other ways as well (last week three of the top four films were animation, with Frozen at number one, the Pirate Fairy at number two and LEGO at number four).

Yes, January is still the weaker month, but this January is the first time a movie crosses the 100M mark since Star Wars especial edition in 97. Not bad.

What? Unless I'm misreading you, there have been several 100m grossers to open in January:

A Beautiful Mind, Chicago, Gran Torino, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Taken, Good Will Hunting, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Black Hawk Down, and Million Dollar Baby all opened since Star Wars in '97 and passed 100m.

Now, while several of those are platform releases (as Lone Survivor was), both Paul Blart and Taken did it previous to Ride Along. (And both ended up with higher totals, too.)

She's the star of the HBO series Girls

Isn't that about as niche as it comes?  Many people don't have HBO.  I turned it on last night and saw someone hosting I'd never heard of.  Turned it off right away.

illegal downloads spread HBO series far and wide ;) (see GoT)

but yeah Girls is probably still pretty niche

The Sopranos,True Blood, and Game of Thrones have all been HBO shows and were much more mainstream than Girls. Girls just has the right people watching and has positioned itself as a "generational" thing. I don't think Lena was the worst SNL host ever or even this season, though. But the hype Girls gets commiserate to its popularity and (IMO) quality is a bit baffling, it brings a big reaction to everything she does. To bring it back to films, a Girls movie a la Sex and the City would totally tank.

People who think Lena Dunham's reach stops at HBO's Girls are lucky.  Because they haven't seen how much the media sucks up everything she does, how much attention they give her for sharing her loud opinions, how completely overexposed she is... for having accomplished so little.

Here are some examples:

http://www.theguardian.com/stage/2013/may/28/lena-dunham-porn-girls-comedy

http://www.buzzfeed.com/mackenziekruvant/lena-dunham-and-shia-labeouf-are-fighting-about-his-skywriti

I'm so glad that backlash is finally started for Miss Dunham because for the past year and a half all I could do was sit back and watch the endless media blitz about... her last sandwich or what her complaint about the latest minor issue was.

The backlash against her started almost immediately after Girls aired. Mostly because she's a woman in entertainment, and there's a lot of sexist culture out there.
