TLK
$100 million is the floor for this movie domestically and I won't be surprised if it challenges $200 million.
Intensive
This will do True Grit numbers, I believe. Seeing Oprah in this getting messed with physically will get people into seats.
DAJK
Wide on Jan 9... wide as in 1200 theatres or 2500+?
Jayhawk the Hutt
This should play well throughout Jan and Feb, it sounds like a good amount of Oscar nods are coming its way.
Ando918
The rap music injected into the trailer might be a way of trying to get Black audiences to come out and see this. Spike Lee has said numerous times that Black audiences usually don't come out to see serious/dramatic films starring African-Americans. Even mainstream stuff like The Great Debaters or Get on Up flops, but they see shoot em ups and gangsta movies in high numbers. Most of the people who went to see The Help or The Butler or 42 were White people.

Personally I think modern music in a historical bio-pic trailer makes the whole thing seem cheap. Have you considered it's to get a younger audience in?
CoolioD1
42 had Jay-Z music all up in it's trailer, just because the song mentioned Jackie Robinson. At least, like, thematically, that public enemy song fits here. I don't mind it.

CoolioD1
There's no way you survive 3 hours in the hood. No way. It's a real shame there seems to be no gifs of the scene in mad men where Paul kinsey is on a bus full of civil rights activists giving him "...you need to shut the fuck up" looks, cos it's perfect for this guy.

You obviously haven't seen the scene in the movie in which MLK Jr. breaks out into an impromptu rap performance to motivate his followers.
