looking at the shazam pre-sales in the tracking thread and they're... not great :bagoverhead:

so Shazam OW under Captain Marvel's OD (61.7M)

You can't really compare Marvel and DC, they are the same genre but the difference in fanbase and popularity of the two is enormous. Simply put Marvel and its characters are miles more popular than DC and will always crush DC at the box office.

Aquaman just made $1.15 billion. This argument is moot.

WB marketing fucked up so bad with Shazam. All they had to do was actually try to let people know it was coming out.

So because DC makes one very succesful movie they are comparable to Marvel that has every year pumps out several very succesful movies? DC has to do a lot more than one lucky hit. Justice league bombed which shows that even the biggest DC characters together lack box office appeal. While everyone is clamoroung to watch Marvel's biggest stars on film.

Shazam would always get crushed because of its release date. Shazam is releasing this week but everyone is just focusing on Endgame and buying tickets to Endgame this week. The only hope for Shazam would have been to movie it to another date.

Shazam is selling so badly a few days before release that even low budget Unplanned has sold more the last 24 hours than Shazam:

https://www.movietickets.com/box-office

If a movie like Shazam only sells about 1 % of all tickets a few days before opening you have a bomb on your hands.

You're just blatantly trolling at this point

idk about that, DC has been pumping out solid hits every year since.. 2016

2016: Suicide Squad 746M without China

2017: Wonder Woman 820M with a huge portion domestically

2018: Aquaman 1.1B..

Can you explain how a low budget anti abortion movie can outsell a superhero blockbuster days before release?

You really have no clue how presales and the percentages on movie tickets work do you?

There is no way you can spin a low budget anti abortion movie outselling a superhero movie days before release as something normal. Shazam is selling uniquely terrible for a superhero movie and its time to acknowledge that fact.

Except this anti-abortion movie is selling tickets for Wednesday, Thursday, and the the weekend. And Unplanned is selling especially well for the weekdays. Calm down.

But it shows how low Shazam will open at. Normally for a superhero movie the movie would always be top 5 in tickets sold at least days before release. For Shazam we are looking at not even opening to 40M.

I do think people are getting ahead of themselves with DC all of sudden becoming super popular over Aquaman. That was nothing like the previous films, had 4.6+ legs, even stronger than Wonder Woman which had insane critical appeal.

I hope we see it, they had Ezra Miller pushing for a dark flash film that would have bombed horribly. Hopefully that gets fixed.
