well there are still people who actually think this. Granted they're laughable scum...

I mean, yes.  But how much did they affect Homecoming or Far From Home?

That's what I meant about it not mattering much in the end. Yes, they're out there. Yes, they'll make noise.  In the end though if Halle Bailey is as good as Disney thinks she will be, it won't matter one bit in the end.

Sound and fury, signifying nothing and all that.

What do you mean "bot"? If it was a bot wouldn't it be like that Horsee-Books twitter account or something?

Probably not a bot which is why I added "troll".  But 'bot' is something of a shorthand for folks operating out of various countries to stir up shit on the internet.  I refrained from using the term "Russian bot" because of connotations, but that's pretty much what I meant.

The flip from anti-Trump posts/RTs a couple of days ago to a pro-Trump reply quote is a might huge tell.

Not a total tell, as the person might just have decided to pull a "I hate that you're making me a racist" card.  But when they go from decrying what's going on down in the border to enthusiastically repeating Trump talking points about the border in the span of 36 hours.

Well...  ZTvo87j.png ZTvo87j.png ZTvo87j.png covers my reaction pretty much.

All of the above is starting to get pretty wildly off topic, so I'll try to leave those comments as my last bits on it. :)

Do we need to post useless tweets from random nobodies?

You are right as always.  I was more commenting on how accounts can flip on a dime and it can be a useful way to tell the difference between a random nobody and someone who is trying to stir up crap on the intrawebs.

Either way, totally right about the importance of the person in question.  Apologies for my own contribution to the slight derail.

One thing's for sure. This has immediately created a divide. It will be fun to see how this all plays out.

For Aladdin and Lion King, they've used animated imagery for promotion just before new merchandise came out. Even then, they continue(d) to use "old" 1990's imagery to help promote the films, including promos for the Disney parks. Not sure if they will be able to do the same for Little Mermaid. It will be difficult using 1989 Ariel to promote 2021 Ariel.

Speaking of... can we get Rihanna?  I'll be happy with any role for the "Battleship" star.

Would have preferred Rihanna in the role honestly. She looks great with red hair.

Is Halle Baily this actress' real name? Sounds like a porn star name.

The box office is gonna be interesting for this especially internationally

Black Ariel, female Scuttle, etc. Disney is taking risks with this Renaissance remake unlike before

The more accurate the remake is to the original, the more it becomes successful

I'm already seeing a lot of dislikes on YouTube videos that are spreading this news

Imagine if the first teaser for this gets Ghostbusters levels of hate/backlash, yikes

No matter how much we are ok with a Black Ariel there's still a huge amount of people out there who won't be

Remember, no one was angry that the 2019 Genie is black, people were angry when they saw that Will Smith wasn't blue in the first pics released

Lol This is not comparable to Ghostbusters. No one was clamoring for another Ghostbusters movie. Ariel is a much more popular brand that comes with a built-in audience. And while this casting news may turn off some, there are others who are now interested or excited who likely wouldn't have been had Disney chosen a white actress/singer.

I will agree that Disney is taking a risk with this but no matter how it turns out or what happens with the box office, I think it's a good thing that they are willing to try something different.

The ONLY people that give a shit about this are sheltered 20-something white girls, and if you find yourself giving a shit about her casting then just remember, that's what you're being, a sheltered 20-something white girl.
