MEH-MORIAL DAY WEEKEND BOX OFFICE | Abandon all hope, the box office is dead. 3 day weekend #s X-Men 65M, Alice 28.1M, Angry Birds 18.7M, Civil War 15.1M, Neighbors 9.1M. Bad openings, horrible holdovers.

Next weekend should be a nice little cool down thread, unless TMNT2 either massive over or underperforms.

The next two weekends after this look so barren. I expect the June 10 weekend will be a bunch of arguing over audiences not wanting to see crappy movies based on video games or unnecessary sequels.

Yeah, June 3 is probably gonna be one of the only cool down threads between now and August.

That's a tall Order Civil War is my favorite comic book movie right now. DOFP is second though, and I'll be happy if it's nearly as good as that.

I really enjoyed Civil War, loads, you can look around for my comments on that film. It was an awesome ride. I just felt Apocalypse was more emotional for me though.

I guess I can compare the climax battles to illustrate my point:

The airport fight was extremely fun but it felt slightly fake to me. That "we're still friends, right?" line bothered the crap out of me I guess.

Without going into any spoilers at all, I can say the climax battle of Apocalypse felt heavily emotional to me and that's probably because I was heavily invested in the characters. Some critics complained about too much CGI and stuff like that(bullshit by the way), but those X-men movies have always been about the X-Men themselves and their inner-relationships and I thought they really showed it right during the climax.

2 very awesome and very different superhero movies in the end I suppose. XMA edges it though.

Speaking of Tomorrowland, am I the only one out there who absolutely loved it?

It was ok until the last act. The creepy pedo relationship between a Clooney and the robot girl was off putting.

I'm sure WarCraft's godly Chinese performance will gather some interests on June 10 weekend.

I see CJohn shamelessly went all fanboy at the end there.

Every weekend until Finding Dory comes out = yawn

Strangely I'm not excited for Dory. Which is weird b/c I love the original. I'm just no longer interested in the movies put out by today's studio system.

Brad Bird was my man. Then Tomorrowland showed me the light.

Nolan is the only real god

Ohmygod, I can't believe I'm hearing you say that :o

Tomorrowland isn't THAT bad.

But anyway, I'm feeling hopeful that X-Men won't shit me up, cause I need it to be succesful for me to win at the BO Casino. Warcraft killing it OS will be the most interesting thing about this weekend to me

#HailNolan

Brad is obviously still great, but Tomorrowland is a bit of a misstep

Will be interesting to see how Alice does. It's the one film that I really have no clue how it's going to be received. Even if X-men "flops" for example, I can't see it doing much worse than First Class, probably going to end up with more disappointing numbers than anything else. Alice on the other hand? I can see almost anything happening from total flop to middling success.

Going by UK/Aus OWs, and considering that Aus could have fallen harder cause their guy was not in the movie + looking at weaker exchange rates, ~20% drop is still in order. That would give an 88.5m 4-day (72.65m 3-day). DOFP  did 2.57x off the 3-day. APOCALYPSE could do 2.35-2.40x of 72.65m for 170-175m.
