Grinch will be huge, but I think it needs to move to Thanksgiving to take full advantage of the holidays.

Gigantic under $225M

Spidey at $250M-$260M

Grinch at $300M

Wow o_o

It's always nice to see international markets saving fun silly movies. Globalization is a good thing folks, it means studios' decisions don't have to be completely enslaved to just one market's whims and that means a bigger variety of movies being made.

That's just my opinion anyway.

Glad to see how well John Wick 2 is doing. Keanu deserves the success.

Shockingly enough, this is Keanu's 5th biggest opening (not adjusting for inflation of course)

Disney likely won't budge from Thanksgiving, the two can co-exist though Grinch will sink once Christmas is done but will have made enough before then. I wouldn't be surprised if it has a huge domestic but an average OS total as Dr Seuss isn't that popular. The original Grinch only made $85m OS compared to the $260m it made domestic.

Well McConaughey has something now he didn't have before - an Oscar. Not to mention he's still fresh in the public eye because True Detective and Interstellar have had solid followings.

Though it probably wouldn't be a bad idea for him to hurry up and get on something either big or Oscarbait quick.

It could still go as high as 3rd or as low as 6th if the actuals differ a bit.

McConaughey is practically in need of McConaissance 2.0 at this point. It's been nothing but failed prestige projects for more than two years, that Dark Tower gig better work out well.

He's not doing too badly. Kubo got critical acclaim, and his other good movies didn't come out too long ago. He's just in a short lull.

With the earnings of Rogue One this weekend, has avoided a very historical fact.

Has surpassed 526.8 million that Mermaid did in China and if R1 didn´t do it this 527, would be the first time in worlwide movie box office history that a non US movie would be the highest domestic grosser.

It´s really amazing how fast has grown chinese market, that even has beaten the US record for a weekly gross total for the top 10 movies...

Hmm, it's a nice thought but I certainly don't feel like there's been a greater variety of movies since OS markets exploded. In fact I'd say they've become a lot more bland to cater to as many different cultures as possible.

Maybe you think things are blander because there have been more would-be blockbusters per year recently than ever? I feel like the whole "only make big blockbusters or small budget movies" trend has more to do with streaming and downloading becoming a huge thing than the OS market exploding.
