I also hope that Gunn gets some assistance with his writing of women in the third installment I agree that he is clinging to certain....um....unfortunate character choices for female characters. Especially after the triumph of Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel, I truly hope that the women of GOTG are written better.

My reactions to the news can be summed up thusly:

 

1) Fuck the alt-right and their bad faith bullshit.  Glad to see this blow up in their face. 

2) Gunn actually being contrite for his previous actions and not pulling the patented "if anyone is hurt, I apologize" bullshit probably helped a great deal. Far too many people aren't actually sorry when they apologize.  Or if they are, it's really "I'm sorry I got caught" not "I'm sorry for what I did"

3) Other folks not falling over themselves to take this job also probably helped.  As did Gunn keeping it cool post-firing.

 

Perhaps more than one lesson here when all is said and done.

 

Any other thoughts I might have on all of this, I'll leave to the side for now.

I think the hype for this one is gonna be off The Chain (1977). Between Gunn's big return, the long wait between sequels, and the prospect of a grand finale to this very beloved incarnation of the GOTG team, it'll be a big one.
