Just to be clear on the methodology, is this individual applying the TA/AoU multipliers to each country, or applying a multi to the total OS-China gross and then applying to each country proportionally? And what multi — the multi just off the third weekend or off the cumulative gross at this point?

Thanks Jumbo* for imgur tip.

The ratios were used from Ultron + Avengers foreign box office numbers (minus China) at the same point with Avengers Infinity.

So, weekend 2 Russia Grosses were used as comp for all 3 films, countries that opened in different weekends (later or earlier say Japan/Poland etc) were tallied together at Weekend 3 to be compared to Infinity's opening weekend launch.

There were countries that were missing data, ie- Estonia, Bahrain, Central Americas for first two films, Switzerland for Avengers, etc. There wasn't too big of a discrepancy with missing countries, (est 11mil for Ultron and 30mil for Avengers).

Cumulative  totals were used for countries with reported #s.

Thanks guys.

Base on the chart, Pee Mak made $18.16M, Infinity War is at $17.2M, so still a good chance of taking the record it seems.

Actually, Pee Mak is out of reach, it’s a real phrnomenon movie. Thais see it again and agian, many bring their parents to the theater once in decades.

IW $17.2M is nationwide number

Pee Mak $18.16M is only BKK+CM, nationawide is as high as $30M

But yes, IW is the biggest Hollywood movie, beating FF7 which feature Thai star, Tony Jaa.

Did Pee Mak elevate the careers of Mario Maurer and Davika Horne by much? Or is it still the same before the movie?

If OS-China total was at 789.3M after Thur, and now 859M, then that’s a 70M weekend. Where the missing 10M go? I know there are territories that Thu got rolled into the weekend, but that’s still quite a difference.

Your looking well over  17m from Wed-Thu(Countries that the standard OD is Wed or Thu) that forms part of the weekend figure

So 640m OW + 17m from Russia + 200m China = $858m on opening weekends.

What's the closest movie to that record? I remember F8 opening everywhere

TFA with China is 581m

F8 opened worldwide at 541m

Basically no one comes remotely close.

The only major market F8 lacked on opening was Japan, which later opened to $7.75 million. This bring's F8's total WW opening up to around $550 million.

At the time, that would've made TFA open as the 117th movie WW. While 858m is Enough for 62th.

117th domestic is at 248m so TFA domestic and WW debuts were equally huge. While 62th is 318m so that's how absolutely massive its WW debut is (despite ALSO breaking the domestic record)

Yes, get that 2B and more! :bravo:

I still can barely wrap my head around the rocketship success that is IW.  Biggest grossing MCU movie is nothing... biggest grossing superhero movie is amazing.  And it will be right around 1.8b WW by the end of the 3rd weekend.  I never thought that was going to happen, not this fast.  Marvel Studios must be throwing constant parties now with the most expensive liquor they can get.

Even if it stopped there, which it won't, it would be a legendary success worth celebrating.  Speaks volumes to the fact that they have basically pulled this off:  building up a "cinematic universe" concept, having it culminate after 10 years in one movie, their biggest and most successful movie ever.  It was an improbable plan that shouldn't have worked.  It hasn't worked for anyone else, not like this.

The massive opening weekends across multiple markets, setting records all over, its just incredible.

This is also a death knell for anyone hoping or expecting Marvel to make radical changes to its formula.  Why would they?  New characters are fine, tweaks are good.  But this works, it's full steam ahead.  The BO and positive WOM is going to cement this method to their madness for the next decade.

They truly pulled it off but the biggest credit goes to creating such a cast of memorable character that play off each other so well no matter what combination of duos, trios, etc. And to MCU credit, they are not afraid to unpair pairings that worked previously and create new ones that may seem bonkers on paper but work insanely well in movies. That's what keeps them fresh. Also, universe building and mythology. IW is everything that's best about MCU. I cannot praise this movie enough. :bravo:
