MT lead for ASIB has grown from .6 (18.3 vs 17.7) to 2.0 (21.4 vs 19.4). It’s pretty hard to interpret that thanks to the Wednesday showings though.

Fandango tracker can give some idea, how big could be the wednesday effect for AStar is born. or maybe not Wednesday sales are probably way disproportionately sold today/ right now.

Venom Share of the total Star is born Share of the total
Wednesday   0% 7572 14%
Thursday 26568 39% 10133 19%
Friday 23062 34% 19353 36%
Saturday  13638 20% 11808 22%
Sunday 5146 8% 4860 9%
Total 68414 100% 53726 100%

  Star is born / Venom
Thursday 38%
Friday 84%

Venom - 63.5 + 6.5 previews = 70.0 OW --  63.0 OW

Star - 55.2 + 4.8 previews = 60.0 OW -- 54.0 OW

Damn I really hope for these numbers for both movies. This weekend would be fucking huge and just really exciting. A Star Is Born coming in way over expectations and Venom coming in at the higher end of projections. I just still feel 60 million OW is still too high for an R rated music drama like ASIB. I always thought more like 55mil tops but these ticket sales are definitely impressive

Will today's box office count for the total of the movie?

Yes. I am pretty sure it'll be added to its Thursday previews numbers but someone can correct me if I am wrong

https://www.thewrap.com/october-box-office-record/

But this October, there’s not one but two films that could break the opening weekend record of “Gravity” and become the first releases to launch to more than $60 million a piece. This weekend, Sony will release the “Spider-Man” spinoff “Venom,” a film that, while currently being savaged by critics, should still at least see a strong opening weekend from comic book fans...

....two weeks later, we could see the biggest hit in October history with the return of Jamie Lee Curtis to “Halloween,” in a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s 1978 classic. The Universal/Blumhouse film, like “Venom,” is also expected to open to at least $60 million, with some analysts telling TheWrap that a $70 million start is very much possible. “Halloween” has earned acclaim from critics since its debut in Toronto, and with audiences looking for a good horror film to celebrate the season, the movie could earn a huge sum in the first two weeks of its release.

....

The result is a movie menu loaded with variety and quality, something that will always lead to big box office numbers no matter what time of year. If all the films perform above their weight class, we could see this October break the monthly record of $758 million set in 2014.

boxofficereport has a lot of faith in ASIB

if it actually opens 20M higher than its tracking then :Gaga: is the real winner this weekend

The $28-30m projections that TheWrap or Variety was saying today were way off though. Everyone knew that. But regardless you're right. $48m for ASIB would be incredible. I was thinking like $37-45m.

lowering predictions to...

Venom - 53.0 + 6.0 previews = 59.0 OW

Star - 46.0 + 4.0 previews = 50.0 OW

why would Venom get less previews than AMATW when Venom has better/or at least the same presales so far.
