The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Man, Gosling can't catch a break. One of the greatest movie stars of his generation and soulless American don't care.

Eh, First Man just looks boring. The Martian, Interstellar and Gravity (other Fall sci-fi/space-themed openings) all had great hooks (stranded on Mars/saving humanity by traveling in the deep of the universe/a 3D-suspense-spectacle that had to bee seen in the cinema).

First Man just doesnt really look that exciting. The quality of a film doesnt mean that much for the box office, anticipation and demand dictates the numbers (see: Blade Runner 2049).

That's kinda the kicker...my spouse and I could go for free tomorrow (dual vets), and I still can't get up the desire to go...I've seen so many good NASA "space program" tv shows and movies...so it's like seeing a remake that's not a remake...I mean, how much more new ground can be found for the topic?  Hidden Figures found some...I don't think this movie did.  To me, it's like remaking Robin Hood...again...and again...and again...it better be the best thing on Earth to get me to pay to buy a ticket again b/c there are SO MANY other possible concepts and movies out there...

Pretty sure he cares more about making good movies more than he does about setting the box office on fire.

In another bad sign for First Man...my 2 locals are booked...only 1 of my 12s even booked the movie, putting it on 1.5 screens (6 showings total with an above average screen and a smallest screen) - and that same local put Goosebumps on 2 screens...

PS - The local that passed on First Man kept Venom on 4 screens and A Star is Born on 2...guess they see the holdovers as the 2 winners for the weekend...they did put Goosebumps up on a screen:)...

My area is safe, so everywhere around here is still open. I was looking at showtimes in Tallahassee and theaters up there are closed until Friday.

MT is a bit more metro biased in terms of area distribution. Tis why all the Bollywood films show up often
