I guess we'll go with around 500K for the time being. For comparison's sake, the first movie did 735K back in 2017

0.44x of Hobbs & Shaw 0 days before release (2.54M)

1.08x of Scary Stories 0 days before release (2.51M)

I threw in Once Upon and Hobbs in there, since @FlashMaster659 used those for his movie. I don't think they're the best comps, but might as well have fun with it.

Anyways, all of these would be very solid preview numbers, and would lock up 20M. Am still a touch pessimistic in it reaching 2M, but hey, my Scary Stories comp was way below the actual preview #, so what do I know?

Good Boys Thursday

718 tickets sold across 8 theaters

Adjusted Hobbs comp: 1.87M

Hobbs comp: 2.11M

OUATIH comp: 2.53M

It's actually looking really good here. Lots of near sellouts, though a lot of the showings have a low amount of seats. I think Hobbs will be the best comp since the previews also started at 7, and OUATIH started at 4. So I'll just go with 2M

No Clowning Around: ‘It: Chapter Two’ To Set Fall On Fire With $120M+ Opening On Par With First Pic

Quote

New Line’s It: Chapter Two, the sequel to the biggest horror film of all time, is looking at a domestic opening similar to the 2017 pic’s $123.4 million first frame.

We hear in regards to demos the pic is comping to the first title in the series, Stephen King’s $700M-grossing It, and 20th Century Fox’s Logan ($88.4M), but It: Chapter Two is far better then the R-rated Wolverine movie in first choice. Some tracking services have the sequel’s opening as low as $95M, which by the way, ain’t too shabby for September. In fact, it would be the second-best opening for the month all time. Nothing to cry about.

Not really sure what to use as a comp for this film, since as I understand it horror isn't that pre-sale heavy.  Maybe.  Maybe.  For now, gonna throw in Detective Pikachu since it's the only film that I have info on that had light pre-sales this far out that wasn't in its immediate first days of sales.  I'll add back in more films on starting on Saturday.

Dunno where else to post this rn but Good Boys was way better than even I was expecting and ive been looking forward to it for a while. It’s definitely a crowd pleaser and I expect legs to be pretty great. But I’m really thinking 20M is going to happen given the above reports as well as just how funny and (heartfelt?) the movie itself is.

After 27 weekends this weekend will be the first without a movie in more than 4000 theatres. In that period the lowest count actually was 4183 theatres by Shazam's third weekend being the only weekend without a 4250 movie.

Random reminder that everything above 100M for IT Chapter 2 should be considered as much of an unbelievable success as the first ones Opening. Its still a R-Rated horror film.

These are the Top 5 Openings for those kinds of films:

1 1 It WB (NL) $327,481,748 4,148 $123,403,419 4,103 9/8/17
2 5 Halloween (2018) Uni. $159,342,015 3,990 $76,221,545 3,928 10/19/18
3 4 Us Uni. $175,005,930 3,743 $71,117,625 3,741 3/22/19
4 8 The Nun WB (NL) $117,450,119 3,876 $53,807,379 3,876 9/7/18
5 11 Paranormal Activity 3 Par. $104,028,807 3,329 $52,568,183 3,321 10/21/11

The legs on an R-rated horror movie that opened as if it were a superhero movie is still mind-boggling for me, in this day and age. I mean, just look at the multipliers on the next four movies on that list. IT 2 getting near a 2.6 would surprise me far more than an opening within ten million of the first one.
