  • In non-tracking news, but back to the gendered debate regarding Aladdin: Disney kept airing an Aladdin trailer during The Voice which screams THIS IS AN ACTION MOVIE, BOYS!!.  I just lol. That's nice.  Play the Alan Menken score.

First count of today, only Thursdays-

Godzilla: KoTM-136 (+6), 8 screenings (3 IMAX, 3 3D, 2 Regular)

Aladdin-154 (+11), 7 screenings (2 IMAX, 2 3D, 3 Regular+Fan Screening) Final Week

Dark Phoenix-70, 6 screenings (1 IMAX, 2 3D, 2 Regular+Fan Screening)

Good start for Godzilla today and uh yeah that Aladdin momentum I mentioned last night seems to be continuing. My theater also added a showing for it which is always a good sign.

Final count of today, just Thursdays-

Godzilla: KoTM-139 (+9), 8 screenings (3 IMAX, 3 3D, 2 Regular)

Aladdin-162 (+19), 7 screenings (2 IMAX, 2 3D, 3 Regular+Fan Screening) Final Week

Dark Phoenix-72 (+2), 6 screenings (1 IMAX, 2 3D, 2 Regular+Fan Screening)

Godzilla had a really good day today while Phoenix has hit the slow down. I'll comment on Aladdin with comps. In total today Godzilla sold 9 tickets, Phoenix sold 2, and Aladdin sold 19.

If the Genie was truly real, I would ask for two wishes, no need for a third one:

Aladdin bombs and Godzilla KOTM does 100 billion OW :)

On a more serious note, is there any reactions to Aladdin yet to see whether the WOM for the movie will be good? It has been quite silent, at least for me.

John Wick-86 (+9), 4 screenings (2 IMAX, 2 Regular)

HOLY FUCK PIKACHU! While not quite double what it sold yesterday this was a huge boost that it needed. If it keeps this momentum up, I definitely think 70+ is very much in the cards. John Wick also did insanely well today as expected. In total Aladdin sold one ticket today (ouch), DP sold an insane 28, and John Wick sold 9.

Daaaamn that Wick increase tickets and showings wise is exactly what I want to see. Must be a very good sign for my theater to add preview screenings (They didn't do this for Pikachu for example). Though in general today everything did well, even Aladdin and Phoenix. In total today Godzilla and Aladdin both sold 6 tickets, Dark Phoenix sold 7, and John Wick sold 21 tickets and got three screenings added.

Aladdin's at Wick's level with less tickets sold then Wick or Pikachu on their final Tuesdays. Mmmmmm.... It's not...horrible but it's not...good either. We'll see how this last day goes but if it doesn't at least match Pikachu in tickets going by at least my theater I can't see higher then a 60-65 million 3 day.

How about the best of both worlds. Would be nice to see both Aladdin and KOTM beat expectations.

Double breakout is certainly possible , domestic is still running 450m behind last year at this point despite EG made up huge chunk of the deficit . There are still room for surprise grow

The best comp I have so far might be Detective Pikachu.  I also have less ideal comps with Solo (for Memorial Day Weekend like-for-like), JW2 and FB2.  Other last minute comps in Venom and Ant-Man and the Wasp have been added.

Unadjusted Comps

1.0790x as many tickets sold as Detective Pikachu 2 days before release.

T-2:

Pika:     300  tickets sold  [0 sellouts/101 showings   |  7619/9404 seats left   | 18.98% sold]

Adjusted Comps

.3886x as many tickets sold as Solo 2 days before release.

.5108x as many tickets sold as Fallen Kingdom 2 days before release.

.7634x as many tickets sold as Ant-Man and the Wasp 2 days before release.

.7919x as many tickets sold as Venom 2 days before release.

.5443x as many tickets sold as Crimes of Grindelwald 2 days before release.

ADJUSTMENT NOTE: If a theater locally that is now selling tickets for reserved seating was selling them for the above movies, but as non-reserved seating for that movie, it is not counted toward the ratio of 'as many tickets sold' for the movie in question.  If a theater is brand new to the region and wasn't yet open for one of the above movies, however, it will be counted toward the ratio.  It will also be counted toward the ratio if it was playing in a different number of theaters locally.

T-2 days:

Solo              236 tickets sold [0 sellouts/135 showings |   8879/13380 seats left | 33.64% sold]

JW2               551 tickets sold [0 sellouts/145 showings | 10171/13595 seats left | 25.19% sold]

AM&tW          268 tickets sold [0 sellouts/111 showings |   8605/10896 seats left | 21.03% sold]

Aladdin (JW)  268 tickets sold [0 sellouts/116 showings |  10263/12012 seats left | 14.56% sold]

----

Venom          n/a tickets sold [0 sellouts/117 showings | 10486/12744 seats left | 17.72% sold]

FB2               396 tickets sold [0 sellouts/124 showings | 11831/15116 seats left | 21.73% sold]

Aladdin (FB)  275 tickets sold [0 sellouts/116 showings | 10942/12730 seats left | 14.05% sold]

Aladdin (JW) is the number of tickets sold at the same theaters I had tracking info for Fallen Kingdom, Solo, and AM&tW

IMO, the best comp of movies I have tracked will be Fallen Kingdom.  I also have comps with the Aladdin (still in pre-sales) and Detective Pikachu as something as a compare/contrast with current May movies.  They may not be as good comps, being in different genres.

Unadjusted Comps

0.8260x as many tickets sold as Aladdin 9 days before release.

Adjusted Comps

.4456x as many tickets sold as Fallen Kingdom 9 days before release.

PRE-SALES NOTE: JW2 had 22 days of pre-sales while KotM had 20.  Also some theaters had KotM tickets on sale for a few days before they were officially announced to the public for sale.

KotM (JW)      34 tickets sold [0 sellouts/90 showings   | 10283/11074 seats left   |    7.14% sold]

Only Thursdays

Orange Park AMC

Aladdin - 154 (+13), 12 screenings (+4 Regular) (2 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 1 3D, 6 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Godzilla KOTM - 126 (+9), 7 screenings (2 IMAX, 1 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular)

Rocketman - 27 (+2), 3 screenings (1 Dolby, 2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 0 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 95 (+6), 8 screenings (1 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Aladdin is back on the board. KOTM had a good day and so did Dark Phoenix. Rocketman is still at a crawl and SLOP2 is dead until further notice.

Regency AMC

Aladdin - 278 (+27), 8 screenings (2 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 147 (+6), 10 screenings (3 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 3 Regular)

Rocketman - 19 (0), 3 screenings (1 Dolby, 2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 5 (0), 5 screenings (2 3D, 3 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 119 (+4), 8 screenings (1 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Aladdin keeps getting those buckets while KOTM and Dark Phoenix get a few more tickets. SLOP2 and Rocketman... Zilch. Nada. Nothing.

Epic Theatres at Oakleaf

Aladdin - 74 (+15), 5 screenings (+2 Epic XL, +1 3D) (2 Epic XL, 1 3D, 2 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 16 (0), 3 screenings (3 Epic XL)

Rocketman - 0 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 4 (0), 3 screenings (3 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 0 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

Other than Aladdin adding a few screens and tickets, nothing to see here.

NewVision 12 at Fleming Island

Aladdin - 21 (+11) , 4 screenings (2 3D, 2 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 4 (0) , 3 screenings (3 Regular)

Rocketman - 0 (0), 0 screenings

SLOP2 - 0 (0), 0 screenings

Dark Phoenix - 1 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

Aladdin did more than double its total today. Lol. Otherwise nothing.

Only Thursdays

Orange Park AMC

Aladdin - 190 (+36), 12 screenings (2 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 1 3D, 6 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Godzilla KOTM - 139 (+13), 7 screenings (2 IMAX, 1 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular)

Rocketman - 29 (+2), 3 screenings (1 Dolby, 2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 1 (+1), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 96 (+1), 8 screenings (1 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Massive haul by Aladdin and KOTM had a fantastic day as well. Rocketman is doing the same thing and even SLOP2 got a ticket! Dark Phoenix was the only one that had a relatively bad day.

Regency AMC

Aladdin - 321 (+43), 13 screenings (+2 3D, +3 Regular) (2 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 4 3D, 5 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 157 (+10), 10 screenings (3 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 3 Regular)

Rocketman - 21 (+2), 3 screenings (1 Dolby, 2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 5 (0), 5 screenings (2 3D, 3 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 129 (+10), 8 screenings (1 IMAX, 2 Dolby, 2 3D, 2 Regular, 1 Fan Event)

Aladdin got a huge 43 tickets today and added 5 more screenings. KOTM had a good day and Dark Phoenix had a great day with the same number of tickets sold. Rocketman scored a couple and SLOP2 got 0.

Epic Theatres at Oakleaf

Aladdin - 91 (+17), 5 screenings (2 Epic XL, 1 3D, 2 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 19 (+3), 3 screenings (3 Epic XL)

Rocketman - 0 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

SLOP2 - 4 (0), 3 screenings (3 Regular)

Dark Phoenix - 0 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

Aladdin continues to grow while Godzilla got a few tickets as well. Any tickets preordered before the week of is a good sign at this theater.

NewVision 12 at Fleming Island

Aladdin - 37 (+16) , 4 screenings (2 3D, 2 Regular)

Godzilla KOTM - 4 (0) , 3 screenings (3 Regular)

Rocketman - 0 (0), 0 screenings

SLOP2 - 0 (0), 0 screenings

Dark Phoenix - 1 (0), 2 screenings (2 Regular)

Aladdin is showing huge growth at all theaters. I don't know if this is just a by-product of the film opening in a couple of days or if it's about to have a huge opening. There are still a ton of unsold tickets and empty theaters, but the growth it's showing is impressive. Godzilla looks to be doing solid numbers as well. Everything else I have no idea.

The Incredibles comps, arguably the best movie to use here, all saw slight increases...then just about everything else, with a few other exceptions, decreased, often by a lot. 🤔 I guess the good thing is, again, Incredibles (and also Solo) saw an increase, and the range has gone down, which is at least easier for us to pin down a number (whether that's 3-Day or 4-Day is up to you). But it's still a pretty soft increase, when I feel it could have done a bit better the Tuesday before release. Let's just hope tomorrow gives us good reviews and a good boost.

Brightburn

Tuesday

35% of The Predator (8.5M)

73% of Hereditary (9.9M)

29% of The Meg (13.2M)

239% of The Prodigy (14M)

142% of Overlord (14.5M)

74% of La Llorona (19.5M)

113% of Truth or Dare (21.1M)

Another movie that saw a decrease from its comps compared to yesterday. I had doubts this was going to hit high teens, but this pretty much confirms my doubts.

Booksmart

Tuesday

21% of A Simple Favor (3.4M)

44% of The Hustle (5.8M)

40% of Blockers (8.3M)

83% of Spy Who Dumped Me (10M)

68% of Tag (10.1M)

And yet again, another soft jump from yesterday, resulting in decreases in comps. But I guess it didn't drop that hard?

But yeah, pretty weird that all three movies had pretty soft increases today. Hopefully that isn't foreboding something bad in the future.

Just think it was a random sluggish day locally.  Looking at Fandango, KotM did more or less the same today as yesterday.  Won't be too concerned unless it continues.
