The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

I won't be surprised if The Hitman's Bodyguard makes similar numbers to Let's Be Cops three years ago. That movie made $80M+ despite toxic reviews, zero starpower, and a badly-timed premise (given what was happening in Ferguson at the time it opened). This has much bigger names, okay-ish reviews for the kind of movie it is, and is opening in a marketplace that will be thunderously dead for a few weeks.

Let's Be Cops made $80M+?!!!!!

Man... I'm really starting to think I was wrong about HB. It went from selling half of TDT and AB and like a quarter of GT. Now it's selling well over TDT and AB and not all that far behind GT on Pulse. At the beginning of the week I thought 20M was near impossible. Now, I really don't know what to think lol. Gotta see how it performs on MT tomorrow. But those 20+ predictions don't seem so far fetched to me anymore.

Honestly, no film this summer has caused me so much back and forth.

LL, on the other hand, I'm still pretty confident will do poorly. Don't be fooled by its #3 spot on Pulse. HB is literally selling almost 5 times more.

You should see my prediction for it in the prediction thread. I have it anywhere from $13M to $20M.

Its the only movie this summer, I haven't been able to get a feel for lol

THB is still 7.1 on IMDB with about 900 ratings.  User reviews spanning twitter are about how fun the movie is and how it was a light, fun experience that was therapeutic in some ways.  I think this type of movie is coming at the right time.

-Critic reviews are fixated on comparisons to Lethal Weapon, etc....this makes no sense to me, but it is what it is.  I think the majority of the audience that will see this movie doesn't care.

I'm still with the more optimistic crowd on this one.

Yeah, I'm getting tons of Central Intelligence deja-vu. That movie also didn't have stellar reviews, but what mattered is that the wom from audiences would be great if the movie delievered on what it promised (a funny romp between two recognizable names). I am counting on it to have impressive legs through the remains of the wasteland that is August, and hell, even up until mid September maybe.

90M+, here we go. (JOIN THE CLUB!)

Lol, I usually have my prediction pretty much set by this point and I still have it anywhere in that same range.

Glad I had time this week to track it so closely on Pulse tho. I needed a solid comp for R-rated comedies that wasn't Girls Trip (just because that was so huge on Pulse prior to opening-which doesn't appear to be the norm for most R-rated comedies).

After the Atom sale effects...the theater also gave 2 Dolby showings to HB, so it now has about 1100ish seats for sales vs LL 600ish...

HB - 22

LL - 5 (yes, this hasn't moved)

PS - Fri got much more of a bump in sales than Thursday - there are more than 22 seats sold just for 1 showing Friday

Now, my locals (1 Atom, 1 not)...both only started sales yesterday - shows probably a partial Atom effect

Atom local

HB - 340 seats over 2 shows - 48

LL - 150 seats over 2 shows - 4

Non-Atom local

HB - 220 over 2 shows - 2

LL - 120 over 2 shows - 0

Okay, might be my last update before show start, but here's my area...

Mall

LL - 10/600

HB - 39/1100

Atom Local

LL - 12/150

HB - 87/340

Non-Atom Local

LL - 0/120

HB - 15/220

I am NOT in LL advertising territory, so as expected, HB is way outselling LL here (and is even at the theater with no Atom deal)...

New Line/Warner Bros.’ It came on tracking in a very strong way with predictions that are akin to a summer blockbuster. However, taking into context the fall marketplace and the time of year, analysts are simmering them to on the low end $50M, and on the high end $60M.

Wonder Woman Was Tracking with $65m 4 weeks out and ended up with $103m so this must be an excellent sign

Logan Lucky has only sold 21 seats total for both shows tonight at the iPic theater, and just 8 seats for tomorrow. For iPic, that's really bad.

The Hitman's Bodyguard has sold 66 seats between both shows tonight and 152 in total between tomorrow's 4 shows. That's really good tbh. Could flirt with $20M for the weekend after all.

At 11:35 on Pulse

1. THB

2. Annabelle

3. Emoji

4. Nut Job

5. DM3

THB is at 25 sets of tickets a minute.

Didnt count LL but I don't know why it's not in the top 5 because it's selling okay
