The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Winchester is getting late sales (at least from Atom theaters) - I didn't post presales from my 2 locals b/c they were zero this morning, but here's where they are now...

Regal (Atom theater - 1 show only) - 21/90

Cinemark (non-Atom theater - 2 shows) - 8/60, 0/60 for 8/120

That seems low

Winchester: 7/67

Comps:

5% of It (6.2M)

20% of HDD (5.2M)

20% of Insidious (5.9M)

20% of Jigsaw (3.3M)

~30% of mother! (2.3M) (I don't have full numbers for that night but my show was in the low-20s)

YIKES. FWIW, these low sales aren't just happening at my theater; a fair amount of shows around Orlando are barely crossing 10 seats. @CJohn it's been a while since Lionsgate has had a megabomb, but it's gonna happen this weekend :ohmygod:

That's a GIGANTIC Coco expansion :jeb!: Good for Molly's Game too; PP3's expansion is cancelling out a lot of drops.

Wow, my theater lucked out with Phantom Thread because it isn't gaining many more theaters

Yeah, like I saw someone here mention, I have no idea who they thought a movie like Winchester would be for? The bigger question is what *ahem* possessed Mirren to do it?

Vin Diesel probably encouraged her to do it so it could connect to The Last Witch Hunter :jeb!:

To be fair, it likely dropped all of the theaters that had cut it down to one show a day last week after how low the grosses were when it went wide two weeks ago. It's keeping the places where it was selling or saw an increase last week (like mine, which sold out its afternoon show every day this week in a 50-seat shared auditorium with Lady Bird).

Black Panther pre-sales now DOUBLE Spider-Man Homecoming at my theatre. Granted, there were quite a few group buy's the past couple days which probably accounted for a lot of it but a really encouraging sign
