The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

BP overperformed in the United States though so its not a fair comparison.

Like for example IW outgrossed BP here in Canada to show the regional varriation (RTH confirmed it was not a big difference like 63 million to 58 million)

Currently 645/1456

I’ll check again in a few hours before I head out and I’ll check again later on before the 10pm shows.

Early show numbers , I have to go in somewhere now and won’t have my phone on so this will be the last update for the early shows. I’ll update the late shows once I’m home. There’s still more time for tickets to sell for the early shows so I expect that number to increase for sure.

496/ 728 ( that 1456 number was the total of the two early and two late shows)

Rave Cinemas 4:00 P.M. CST (Two hours before first showtime)

3D

7:30 - 39/85

10:30 - 4/85

two 3D showings, seventeen 2D showings

I'd just like to take a moment to collectively thank movie-goers in general for voting with their wallets and stopping Hollywood's 3D cash-grab.

For the full day Friday, there are only four 3D showings and thirty-one 2D showings (same with Saturday and Sunday)

My theater for this weekend

Captain Marvel 2189 6631 33.01%

44% of Black Panther (89.5M)

53% of Infinity War (137.8M)

130% of Deadpool 2 (163M)

203% of Solo (171.3M)

86% of Incredibles 2 (156.5M)

160% of Jurassic World 2 (237.6M)

329% of Ant-Man 2 (249.5M)

310% of Venom (248.5M)

361% of Fantastic Beasts 2 (224.5M)

426% of Aquaman (289.1M)

The MCU and non-MCU comps tell a whole different story (Black Panther overperformed here compared to most theaters tho, so do keep that in mind), but I'm gonna be optimistic toward the non-MCU comps

Also China thread looking at 112.5M weekend according to @Charlie Jatinder :)

:sparta:

Just to be clear I said,

Maoyan predicts ¥245mn Friday and I will take that open armed. Another ¥281mn and ¥212mn next 2 days. Again, no problem.

If that holds, will be ¥754mn or $112.5mn weekend.

However my expectations are around same but with good WOM. If its average, will be around $90-100mn.

I can top that.

One of the local theaters in the region has 23 showings tonight and ZERO 3D screenings.  And it's not like they don't have 3D screenings, coz they absolutely do.

Never seen anything like it before.

Too bad but it certainly makes sense for theater people to be busy today. Many thanks to him and you for the tidbits we do get. Also it would still be valuable to know what today’s CM number was even if we didn’t learn it until after the OW, for the purpose of future comps — not sure if that data is even easily retrievable afterward.
