Weekend Actuals: 36.2 M ALIEN: COVENANT | 34.7 M GOTG II | 11.7 M EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING

Recommended Posts

None of my theaters have made decisions on screens for CU.  I'm sure they'll look at drops from Snatched/King Arthur from last weekend and then this weekend's openers before they decide how many of those movies they can drop screens or showings (or all together) to make room for the 2 big openers, WW and CU.  I think it will be a lot more open than it seems now for CU (and WW) to get the screens and showings they need for good OWs...

8.8 for GOTG2 with CW's Sat and Sun holds in 3rd weekend will give 33.7

34-34.5 would be a 47-48% drop, great considering Sun-Sun decline will be higher than usual.

Next weekend should be solid again and then the real summer kicks in.

381 would be 2.6x and is still alive after 3 weekends.

I don't see it dropping much if at all today. Even Resident Evil and Underworld managed to increase.

15.4 sat requires a 37-38% bump from true Friday (11.2). That's an insane bump and not happening.

20% bump from true Fri would give 13.4 and using a great -23.8% hold on Sunday would give 10.2:

15.4+13.4+10.2=39

That's max imo. Thinking 37-38.

The biggest problem with Covenant marketing is that it was marketed as a horror/slasher movie. One of the reasons Prometheus made more money because it was marketed as big epic blockbuster/event movie and it attracted many non-fans, it was less front-loaded. They should've marketed Covenant as big event movie too, so it was very dumb move to market it as slasher because horror genre makes much less money than good big event movies, which have wider audience than horror genre.

Prometheus had a pretty big Saturday drop (with midnights instead of previews), and Alien is under GOTG on Pulse today (which is looking at around 14-15m today), which indicates a pretty heavy drop from Friday.

40m+ just seems to optimistic now.

Looks like Everything, Everything isn't going to be frontloaded like Paper Towns was. Nice rebound from Friday previews.

Alien Convenant unspectacular numbers. Should have left it in August, the competition coming up is fierce.

im scared for this summer, I feel like it's 2014 redux.

Really? I don't think that's the reason. Both Split and Get out will outgross Alien:Covenant. The franchise was never an "event" movie, it never broke out from its core fan base.

Pretty sure some of Wimp's money was added to AC since both are from the same studio.

No, it wasn't.  If Covenant doesn't hit 100 mil US it would be worthless to do so anyway. People on this site love their conspiracy theories though.
