Minions 4th Monday: 2m

DM3's 4th Monday: 2.3m

Minions OW: 115

DM3 OW: 72.4

Minions made a further 46M from this point, DM3 can potentially make another 50M at least based on that.

Don't know what you mean exactly by political wins, but they were not political movie at all outside Spotlight, Argo and Hurt Locker (Or I'm not sure what people mean by political). You did skip Birdman, Artist, No Country for Old Men, The Departed.

What was political about 12YS or Moonlight ?

Race vs sci fi (anything but sci fi will ever win) and race + gay (we have to atone for Brokeback snub). You can't get more political than that.

I can certainly go way more political than skin color or sexual orientation (not sure what government or politics has to do with any of those), healthcare, educational system, international interventionism, trade, economics system, etc... Not sure what Sci-fi would have to do with politics.

I mean if you put not voting for Gravity a political move, well I'm not sure what would not be....

What was political about King speech win ? Departed ? No Country for Old Men ? The Artist ? Birdman ?

Dunkirk's Monday is amazing. I wonder why the Sunday was so weak.

WW dropped 48%.

Maybe yesterday was a big movies day...

Could there be a little bit of a GOT effect in play, just slightly reducing grosses on Sunday? (only by less than 5%)

Yeah, DM3 is doing really well. I guess you can blame the crowded marketplace for its relatively muted opening weekend. I was expecting this movie to be huge right out of the gate. Like, $120M+ OW huge.

You know, I'm gonna have very mixed emotions when we see 4 $300M+ movies this summer, matching the same 4 from my pre-summer call...but, at least 3 of them are good:)...

Yes, since the whispers are that Emoji is "meh" at best, unless something changes and we see quality that doesn't seem to be coming, I don't think Emoji will have enough box office power to stop the next 6 weeks of DM3...

Ugh. I'm so tired of this discussion. It's a clear way to undermine CERTAIN best picture winners.

The Academy is political and there's always politics that play into their decision. Every single freaking year! Do you guys really think The Departed is Scorsese's best picture? Is No Country For Old Men the best Coen Bros movie? There's always a million reasons why the film that wins best picture does happen to win that particular year. But the only time people seem to scream politics is when the film happens to feature predominantly non white casts. Now why is that...?

Voting against sci fi (Gravity) is political. They'll never allow the ROTK repeat. Ever.

Birdman, The Artist and Argo were movies about Hollywood. They love to award movies about themselves. So that's political too.
