What I originally posted was already here, sort of!

Did any of you who saw It see the mother! trailer? if so, was it effective?

It was effective....

In getting people to roll their eyes.

The previous trailer was better, this new one with the whole "YOU'LL NEVER FORGET WHERE YOU WERE WHEN YOU SAW MOTHER!" reeked of pretentiousness.

agreed,  I saw IT twice and both times, the crowd laughed at the trailer.  I said it before, that bad trailer won't hurt the movie or mean the film is not good, just think they should have showed a better one.

Thanks.  I had read your post on that, and was hoping what was funny/incongruous was the deep 'MOTHER!' at the end of each of the trailers.  Damn.  I'm biased but I did want the trailer to be good, particularly given how popular IT is.

Universal execs must have been scratching their heads right now. Muschietti should've directed The Mummy reboot.

I don't think it really would have mattered. You could have put James Cameron directing Christopher Nolan producing and Steven Spielberg executive producing and the mummy still probably would have tanked in North America.

I haven't seen such a negative reaction to a trailer before

Such a wasted opportunity, surely event movie like that are full of people that never go in theater anyway and cannot be attracted to go to a non-even film, but still it was over 10 million people in theater, the best way to watch a trailer.
