@TalismanRing A lot of good movies and hits. Who would have thought?!

You are joking, right?

Geostorm will do around 12 million;that is lousy for  a film with a 100 Million plus budget (with overseas it might just break even, but that is a long way from a certainty)

OTB will not get into profit, and Snowman is a big joke at this point.

Boo is the only film opening that will prove a good investment for the studio making it.

The first one cost 20M too! Tyler Perry has to have a salary on par with people like JLaw and RDJ :ohmygod:

As he should! Tyler's profitable and he is his own franchise. Doesn't ride existing property's coattails. :bravo:

Yep, Bratt Ratner The Producer is truly a gift to the movies. He has really good taste and often backs up worthy projects.

.....he's talking about Brett Ratner/Ratpac's track record as a producer, not about this weekend's movies. CONTEXT.

Other way around imo (not that it ever really mattered, but less and less it do), it is when Disney that does not win it that it does not mean they really did not, Disney distribute less and less movie they did not produce themselve and finance more alone what they do, if an other studio edge them by a bit, that do not make that other studio the winner over Disney (without even taking into account the slate side and the expense here).

It is, until recently (say for as recently than the 2013 slate) it was more common for a studio to finance larger title alone and now the conversation cannot ever be: Oh the studio loss X million on that title looking at is box office and cost, just need to change the conversation at: Oh the movie loss X millions to 9 different people (intl buyer, co-financier, co-producers, the studio, etc...) and a less clear narrative is a bit more boring, a bit like car makers all co-operating sharing factory or even co-making some model or samsung making lot of money on every IPhone sold making those watching industry like a sport event duller.

Okay I got an idea.

Instead of studio crown, we'll use...

"studio (distributor) crown".

Simple. :qotd:

Yikes. Five new releases and not one of them performed up to their full potential.

Then again, I think unintentional bad timing hurt three of the films to some degree. Geostorm is a disaster film opening in relatively close proximity to three devastating storms in the states and a territory, Only the Brave comes on the heels of an especially nasty wildfire season on the west coast, and The Snowman depicts grisly violence against women while sexual assault and harassment are in the media spotlight (this last one's a stretch, yes, but it had me more turned off to seeing the film than the blisteringly negative reviews did).

As others have already said, exhibitors must be desperate for Thor and Bad Moms right about now.

Boo!'s audience score on Saturday night: 71%

Boo 2!'s audience score on Saturday night: 60%

The first Boo! dropped 40% in its second weekend with Halloween falling on a Monday last year. I don't know if this one will have the same luxury.

Snowman disaster is great news for cinephiles around the world :

They will now be able to stop pretending that Tinker Tailer Whatever made any bit of sense.

The director had no clue on this movie too.
