If any of these happen  - okay, yes Aquaman and WW2 are probably definites - but, I think anything else can be canceled - heck, Disney just this summer canceled an animated movie Gigantic that they spent 2 1/2 years developing...Sometimes, it's worth not putting any more money into a doomed to fail product.

Didn't we hear that WB wanted to go away from the shared universe thing a month or so ago? If they were thinking about making their movies standalone anyways, this JL disaster is just going to confirm for them that they should head in that direction.

And yeah, it's definitely not too late to cancel something they haven't started filming yet. If the budget for Shazam was going to be something like $150M, they really ought to put some serious thought into cancelling the thing. But if they can make it for only $50M, then yeah, go for it.

Shazam will likely go forward because of The Rock as Black Adam. Doubt it will have any ties to the DCEU though.

Soo... did the RT score debacle help our hurt? Conventional wisdom would say that keeping the negative score under wraps would have helped the film in order to minimize negative WOM.

The made the reveal an event which brought more attention to the rotten rating. :hahaha:

Fox needs to fix the X-men franchise or they'll experience the same trainwreck with future X-men films...

Or is it already too late? :ohmygod:

Nah, Fox is fine. New Mutantss concept as a horror film makes it special and Dark Phoenix, though very likely to decrease from Apocalypse, can still have atleast a decent marketing campaign to make people curious.

Why does everyone think WW sequel can't improve at the box office from her debut solo?? Lol Its nkt like we didn't learn anything from Dark Knight! What does make people think WW sequel can't pull off Nolan's TDK numbers??...

Cultural phenomens are almost impossible to duplicate. Batman Begins wasnt one, it was just a solid, if not underwhelming box office run at the time. Furthermore, the incredible marketing campaign for TDK and HL death made TDK an event even before it came out.

WW2 has a predecessor that was already that kind of a phenomeneon. So it makes sense to predict more like a SM1 to SM2 scenario.

So only Joker can make the bank these days as the villain, eh? Lol What if i told you that Charlize Theron as Cheetah can potentially lure in as much casual non-comic book geek average moviegoers as Ledger's Joker??...And how about Leto's Joker?...Sure didn't help SS grossing more than 325m domestically!...

The message that this opening sends is pretty clear; people are fucking tired of bats and supes. There was no novelty factor in this and people didn't really want to spend their bucks to see a Batman movie for the 100th time.

The DCU universe needs to focus on new, fresh, lesser known characters and Wonder Woman is the proof. I could see Aquaman/Flash movies being quite successful If they really are good.

Wonder Women got a ton of buzz for having a strong female hero and doing it really well.

I stil think it blow past 350 million if its good.

Infinity War is going to be the highest grossing movie of next year. Ya'll gotta stop pretending it's not. LoL.

JW2 and Incredibles 2 should out gross it easily. Black Panther, Deadpool 2, and Han Solo are also real possibilities

If you think BvS tainted the GA, you need to 1st replace Bats and Supes in costume...and anyone related to them (Lois, Lex, etc)...You need to go as far away from Bats and Supes as possible...b/c if you don't, the GA will still say "ugh, Affleck/Cavill again - did you see how awful their BvS movie was?  How will this be any different?"  Doesn't matter how great they were in costume - Clooney wasn't terrible as Bats, but he never put the suit on again...sometimes you gotta break from even good actors if movies taint them...

The good news is that WW doesn't age...so you can have her on a team or in a universe at any time...no problem for any future team ups with her...so, she's the one element you can save from the BvS core, b/c she also really isn't associated with the movie in a negative light...

This is way too over the top and if anything the chance the general audience rejects buying into yet a 3rd re-boot of Batman and Superman characters is much greater than them rejecting some much needed changes in what they already have.

Warner Bros. needs to learn from this failure, but going over the top in reacting to things is what got them here in the first place.

There is a clear path forward that doesn't require blowing everything up, but it requires major changes that restore some sort of faith to the public.  The first thing to do is get rid or Snyder and likely Geoff Johns.  Then announce that Wonder Woman 2 is moving forward along with Man of Steel 2 with a good directing choice.  Find out if Affleck is staying and if he is, get The Batman into production.  That gives you 3 strong stand alone films.  It will restore order and take the focus off building this shared universe and instead give people interesting stories to look forward to.

My reason is simple, and after seeing what people here think of WW, it may be controversial. Wonder Woman didn't make as much as it did because it was a great movie. It made so much money because Wonder Woman is a popular character that had not had her own movie yet, so there was a built up demand. Additionally, a lot of women (and some men) wanted to see a movie where a female superhero did all the things that male superheroes do. That novelty allowed it to breakout from its core audience and do well with the GA.

The novelty factor has worn off. It will be difficult to get the female GA audience to come out again in the same force for another Wonder Woman movie. Once Captain Marvel is released in 2019 (the same year that Wonder Woman 2 is scheduled to be released), there will be another female superhero film to further erode the novelty. Also, Wonder Woman is now in the present day, so it is no longer a period piece. All of these factors will mean diminishing returns for Wonder Woman.

It's extremely hard to top a mega break out hit.

Especially one that crosses 400 m.

I think Catching Fire is the only exception.

This is an overreaction.  Avengers 2 is not Justice League and it will rebound from Avengers: Age of Ultron.

If anything, Jurassic World 2 and Incredibles 2 have a much bigger chance of underperforming.  Same thing with Deadpool 2 and Han Solo.

Black Panther on the other hand is going to be a monster if the reviews are good.
