A bit of under estimating Kevin Hart domestic in the conversation about Jumanji.

Kevin Hart did more with Ride Along than with Central Intelligence and chunck out 90m or more domestic title without much effort (not much quality, spectacle, franchise, etc... needed) and can open himself all alone on stage over 10m.

Not sure Johnson is proven to be a bigger domestic draw than Hart in a comedy at this point.

Yeha iw as gonna say the ensemble for the film helped it more than Dwayne Johnson. Jack Black and Kevin Hart are popular comedians.

Smaller Monday bumps than expected but Sunday was much stronger for both and with Disc Tues, probably 2006 model is not useful. Expect better holds on Tuesday I guess.

1.  Star Wars: The Last Jedi  (DIS), 4,232 theaters / $24.7M Fri /$29.1M Sat/ $17.9M Sun/$31.4M Mon/3-day cume: $71.7M (-69%)/4-day: $103.1M/Total:$399.7M/ Wk 2 Monday +75.4%

2.  Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle  (SONY), 3,765 theaters / $12.46M Fri / $14.8M Sat/ $9.2M Sun/$17.3M Mon/3-day cume: $36.5M/4-day: $53.8M/Total:$70.4M/ Wk 1 Monday +88.0%

That is what I’m thinking. Discount Tuesday is a lot bigger deal now.

Its also a very good thing that Jumanji is breaking out. Apart from The Last Jedi delivering the expected massive grosses, nearly everything else is doing mediocre to bad. Greatest Showman wont be the greatest hit, PP3 is collapsing and Downsizing...well and Father Figures....uhm.

The rest of the holdovers are posting relatively small numbers (such a shame for Coco :() and the awards stuff is doing good to great, but the raw numbers for them are very small. So if Jumanji had also underperformed, this holiday season would be a bit of a dud.

Btw, i dont expect All the Money in the World to earn all the money in the world.

It's not dissimilar to two years ago when Daddy's Home became a smash and the other Christmas openers (Joy, Concussion, Point Break) either did alright or flopped. Last year had the monster that was Sing, though Passengers also did okay in the end all things considered.

I just spent an hour trying to get tickets for TLJ tomorrow and the only thing I could find with four together is 9:30 am

Didja look at 10pm?:)...10:35pm here has over 100 seats left for discount Tuesday:)...now 8:55am only has 25 seats...and they are the same price...

It's the craziness of this movie...maybe it's the new blockbuster "seniors and little kids" movie:)...

It's madness around me. All of the following movies have sell-outs for today.

The Last Jedi

Jumanji

All the Money in the World (these three have multiple sell-outs)

Molly's Game

The Greatest Showman

Pitch Perfect 3 (I'm guessing they downgraded it to one of the smaller theaters)

Downsizing (ditto)

Ferdinand

The Shape of Water

Darkest Hour

Call Me by Your Name

This one really sucks

Not based on how it opened...it's only a 45% weekend decrease for Ferdinand (and didn't have the 3 for 1 ticket deal for the weekend)...it could have been a heckuva lot worse...

When your opening sucks, there's only so much recovery you can do...
