Weekend Thread: Thursday Previews - Spider-Verse $3.5M | Mortal Engines $675K

Didn't iJack say this was going to open up to like over 100 million at least. 🤔 Besides that, decent opening for Spider-Verse, it's a shame that the animated CBMs can't attract as big of an audience as the live action ones. There's a lot of potential with the medium.

Incredible arguably did show that domestic at least they could, a Imagine that a 300m Disney Animation Avengers giant disney/pixar like spectacle using the original cast voice over could get quite big.

Nontraditional animation proposition has a very hard time going mainstream (regardless of quality, when we look at Laika run).

To be fair to him, there were a lot of BOT people saying $50M+ was a gimme and $70M+ was likely (that was not me, but I had under $40M 2 weeks ago, and I stuck by my casino bet, which will be tight - I'm not sure it doesn't squeak there still:)...IJack just took it next level...

No one but the fanboys or those super hyped said that. $50M was only a guess early due to previews.

Incredible is a Pixar movie first and foremost not a superhero one.

There were some shows for it here today but I will see it next weekend.

ughhhhhhhhhhhh i want to see it so badlyyyyyyyyyyyy

I haven't been to the theater since I saw Can You Ever Forgive Me? two and a half weeks ago. Haven't really had the energy to see anything, but I suppose Spider-Verse will force me out.

Yeah, I've been busy with other things, but I definitely could've seen Creed, Green Book, and Instant Family over the past couple weeks. I had the three day streak where I saw Widows, Ralph, and CYEFM and have felt content with not seeing another movie lol (especially bc my Widows audience suuuuucked). College will be taking up most of my time starting in a few weeks(!), so I'm sure I'll cherish trips to the theater more then.

Work + college? Oh, buddy, and you think you will feel like going to the movies any time soon...

Universal are a studio of two halves this year, on the one hand they have had really successful hits like Jurassic World, The Grinch, Halloween etc but then they have some big flops like Mortal Engines, First Man and Skyscraper and it's likely Marwen will join them.
