91st Academy Awards - Discussion thread - RACISM IS OVER, THANKS GREEN BOOK

Recommended Posts

Ignoring the winners, this was a really good ceremony overall. Very well paced, the awards were distributed well within the given time, barely went overtime comparatively, no cringey skits, and no host mugging and wasting time. Do more ceremonies exactly like this.

It's fucking irritating as hell that a movie all about loving and understanding each other is getting a backlash. That kind of crap is what makes me hate the internet sometimes.

A million likes and we rarelt agree.... I cant hardly stand the web anymore and that includes this site due to the constant need for negativity.

Green Book won Best Picture. What? What a terrible way to end the night.

Alfonso Cuarón Won Best Director for Roma. The film's chances to win the Best Picture Oscar just went up.

Olivia Colman won Best Lead Actress for The Favourite. I'm stunned. I thought Glenn Close would win for sure.

Rami Malek wins Best Lead Actor for Bohemian Rhapsody. It's the film's fourth win of the night.

Lady Gaga winning Best Original Song for “Shallow” from A Star is Born was a lot more expected.

Black Panther won for Best Original Score. I was not expecting that. It's been a good night for the movie.

Spike LeeDavid RabinowitzCharlie Wachtel, and Kevin Willmott won Best Adapted Screenplay for BlacKkKlansman. Thank god. A deserved win for sure.

Green Book won for Best Original Screenplay. ... The Favourite was robbed.

Skin won for Best Live-Action Short Film, which is sort of an upset. These categories are really hard to predict, so it is hard to say if a result in unexpected.

First Man won for Best Visual Effects. Our readers picked Avengers: Infinity War, but I picked First Man, because Oscar voters don't like Marvel and First Man is a more serious film'

Period. End of Sentence. won for Best Documentary Short and our readers are two for two in the shorts category.

The Short Film categories are notoriously hard to predict, but Bao winning for Best Animated Short is the exception.

We have the least surprising result of the night: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won for Best Feature-Length Animated Film

Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor for Green Book. He wasn't a supporting acting in that movie, but what can you do?

Bohemian Rhapsody won for Film Editing. The movie had a troubled production after the director flaked out and was rightfully fired, so the film had to be saved in the Editing room. Therefore, this award makes sense.

Roma won for Best Foreign-Language Film. This likely won't be the least surprising result of the night, but it was one more the more decisive categories in our contest.

Yep. Bohemian Rhapsody won for Sound Mixing as well. This was predictable.

Bohemian Rhapsody won for Sound... Editing? Neither I nor our readers got that one right. The Sound Mixing was more impressive in that movie than the Sound Editing was, so it is probably a lock to win that award.

Roma won for Best Cinematography, which our readers predicted, so their losing streak is over a just one category. It is also good news for Roma, which could have a very good night tonight.

Black Panther wins again, this time for Best Production Design. This is the first miss for our readers, but four out of five is still a great record so far.

Black Panther won for Best Costume Design. I didn't think they would win, but I'm glad they did. Both myself and our readers predicted The Favourite in this category.

Vice wins for Best Hair and Make-Up. This was an easy prediction this year.

We are just two categories in and I have my first miss. I thought RBG would win, but our readers correctly predicted Free Solo as the winner for Best Feature-Length Documentary.

We have our first winner.... Regina King won Best Supporting Actress for If Beale Street Could Talk. I changed my prediction after her Independent Spirit Award win last night and that was the right move. Our readers also got it right in this category.

Ranking the 2010s BP winners:

1. The Shape of Water

2. Moonlight

3. The Artist (fight me)

4. 12 Years a Slave

5. Spotlight

6. Birdman

7. The King’s Speech

8. Argo

9. Green Book

The only thing wrong with this is it makes it look like Argo was only marginally better than Green Book

I haven't seen Green Book yet it but it got an A+ Cinemascore and is still legging it out at the box office so I don't think people are going to be as mad as some here think

The GA love it. Some people here are very out of touch if they think this is another Crash.

Not sure what I'd like more, for Spike to not even dignify this with a public response or for him to give the Academy all kinds of shit now that the circus is over.

people have been asking him about green book for the past month and he said he wouldn't talk about other films in contention during awards season (which kinda makes it obvious he hates it given how happily he talked about how much he loved star is born/roma). it's over now and he's always been pretty vocal so... the press tour for his next movie is gonna be lit.
