Source article says it was Nolan's idea to put Tenet back in theaters and when he approached WB executives with it they were more than receptive. So it's because Nolan wants it.

Given the pandemic release and Nolan riding an Oppenheimer high, he probably saw it as the best opportunity for people to see it without restrictions in a dead zone for movie releases.

I guess that makes sense, but I don’t know if it’s going to get that many more eyeballs on the film.

I'm not expecting tons but there's probably enough Nolan fanatics and people who missed in 2020 that it would at least do a fair bit better than the Soul re-release did. Maybe add a couple million or so

WB, stop! He's not coming back

It's hard to imagine Universal letting him slip through their fingers after the Oppenheimer success. Also hard to imagine the cheapskate Zaslav throwing around extra money at Warner Brothers to outbid Universal on future Nolan projects.

WB let Nolan slip through their fingers despite giving in to his demands and releasing Tenet in theaters only.

That's probably happening this year too for its 10th anniversary.

I saw it advertised in one of those "Classic film" sereis, where it will show for one night.
