Tbf Genisys was met with a big fat shrug in western Europe too. I was thinking more in the Russia/China/South Korea direction.

It's still MASSIVELY down from Genisys in Europe.

Maleficent 2 OW is equal to Maleficent’s second weekend. Maleficent 2 second weekend will be equal to Maleficent’s third weekend despite Maleficent having summer weekdays. A finish in the 100-110 range looking likely.

Which, given how unwanted sequels have performed this year, would be a respectable finish.

If The Lighthouse had double the theaters, it probably could’ve made the top 5. Really happy to see it doing this well, especially because it’s much less accessible than The Witch.

Not bad. AMC was in line with estimates. This is the kind of hold I was waiting for joker to have. It needs to continue to hold well to help 1B WW.

 

Maleficent should have a big increase today and so weekend should be close.

Maleficent 2 is flopping in North America like everyone who saw what happened to Alice 2 knew would happen. It will save face because of the international numbers but it is by no means a win for Disney because of that huge budget and marketing spend.

 

Joker has another good drop and will pass the 275mil mark. If WB wants to make dark art-house type DC movies then follow Joker's example. Don't ruin good hearted Superheroes like Supes and Bats in trash movies like Batman v Superman.  Pick the right characters for these dark movies and don't hire hacks like Snyder to direct them. Joker and Mal 2 will be neck and neck for the weekend. Mal 2 probably has the edge because it's a kids movie.

 

Gemini Man is such a disaster. I love Will Smith but he needs to swallow his pride and choose movies with good directors and don't bring on his people to tailor the film to him. Ang Lee needs to be less concerned with HFR technology and more concerned with good scripts. He's becoming another Robert Zemeckis.

 

I am not predicting higher than 37mil for Dark Fate next weekend.

Very good. Three Billboards did over $20K PTA from 53 theaters in its second weekend two years ago.
