I’m not entirely sure if you are Japanese or just lives there, but I think all it needs to be said is that innocent people died. Civilians died. That isn’t justified in Japan or literally anywhere. The bomb should have never been dropped. Period.

Japan's war, invasion and occupation in the pacific resulted in the deaths of at least 20 million civilians and that may be a huge underestimation.  There are claims that over 50 million Chinese died during the 10 year occupation.   In 1937 The Rape of Nanking alone was at minimum 200,000 people murdered (some estimates are up to 300-400k) and 20,000 raped over a 6 week period.

The atomic bomb is an incomprehensibly horrific weapon that should never have been dropped but it was dropped in a incomprehensibly horrific war where a minimum of 60 MILLION people died - the overwhelming majority innocent.  There were air raid bombings of Japan from 1942-45  where far more civilians died than with the atomic bombs (est: 300k to 900k) .   At the time the first atomic bomb was dropped there were still 3,000 people - mostly civilian - killed a day by Japanese forces.   The scale of inhumanity, horror and loss is almost unimaginable to people of this era.

The sex scenes were fine. I don’t know why Americans insist on being weird about this stuff.

It's weird but at least they weren't covered in inky black CGI like in India  - the land of the Kama Sutra   - where an on screen kiss is still considered a bit risque.

Whole lot of boinking in India, judging by the massive population there.

The number of people who died during world war 2 in the Soviet Union gets me every time. That’s just staggering

Total should be just over 700m. It was around 673m from original run and then rereleases in 2020 got it to 700m, mostly from China. BOM is jacked up

Ya, I know Interstellar had a couple re-releases here and there, but BOM has one listed for SK in 2021 making like 70 million. Which... I feel like is correct.

Korean site Korbis has no re-release numbers for Interstellar in 2021 (or 2020) in the top 50.   SM was the highest grosser at around $44m.    They only have it listed for 2014 at 10m admissions and $63m (lower than $70m because they always use local currency and  the $ reflects current exchange rates)

There’s a rumour on TikTok of a ‘15 minute full penetration sex scene’ and an absurd number of people seem to think it’s true. A colleague cited it as a reason not to go with a member of their family.

The casualties in WW2 are awful, but it's a major fallacy to use those numbers to write-off the casualties from the atomic bomb.

Even at the low end of 110k casualties, that is 110k people (mostly civilians) dead from two single bombings over the course of two single days (This isn't even considering long term damage from radiation and psychological affects of those that survived). Bombings which intentionally chose civilian targets of a country that was at the verge of surrender and essentially defeated.

The debate around whether the atomic bombs should have been dropped is not determined by them being the largest cumulative source of casualties during the war. It also isn't meant to justify or forgive Japan for atrocities they committed during the war. It also isn't a sick dick measuring contest of which country suffered the most damages. It is examining two horrific single day events that changed the course of the world. It's a complex issue, but writing it off because the rest of the six year war was also bloody is a poor way to think about it.

For those that went to watch Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX, did you get your film strip souvenir before entering the theatres?

Still not well enough to sit in the theatre for 3 hours yet, but I really want one of the film strip...I want to just buy a obscure seat to get a film strip...

I'm seeing this in 70mm in 2 weeks. I'm hoping there are still some left lol
