Oppenheimer | 2024 Academy Award Winner for Best Picture and Best Director

I seriously doubt the Academy chose not to give this a nod based off something Christopher Nolan said months ago. As has been pointed out, Dunkirk wasn’t nominated for visual effects either.

I was searching Oppenheimer movie times near me, and suddenly there are like 7 theatres near me that are playing it again (albeit not IMAX). Last month there were only two or three theatres near me playing. I thought the rerelease was in January. So many rereleases I lost count. I am in Vancouver by the way. Are the other movies really just not filling seats so they are playing Oppenheimer again? But I would imagine a 5 month old movie wouldn't fill that many seats either.

The fact The Boys in the Boat and Nyad (haven't seen either but did these movies really require a complicated amount of VFX work?) got in while Oppenheimer and other high-profile titles missed is funny to me.

She won't win (Da'Vine Joy Randolph is already shaping up to being the one most likely to pull off an acting sweep across the four categories the entire season) but Blunt is likely to get swept up along for the ride given how Supporting Actress isn't very competitive this year and she's in a Best Picture frontrunner.

It‘s just that she didn't make it on a lot of critics' lists so I am worried that she won't get nominated. But this is the first time I am following the Oscar race closely so I don't exactly know what's going on.

I like Blunt, but IMO her performance is paint-by-the-numbers.

Oscar nominations are on January 23 so the return to IMAX seems a week or two early unless they are expecting a bump from the Golden Globes on January 7.
