$5M for 355's opening?

yeah this shit is over-performing. 1.7M off 350K preview is quite a jump. Or they simply over-estimated to get a better headline on Sunday.

It's still a big bomb but 5M looks better than 3M.

No way 355 sniffs 20M OW in any times. 10-ish M max. Generic previews, no stars, kind of movie that doesn't appeal to any demo. They tried and failed with these action women team-ups too many times. The only reason why The Marvels will do well is Marvel, not a team-up. Marvel brand will offset the curse.

That seems acceptable for The 355 all things considered. Had it been any good it likely would've opened to $20M+ in normal times.

There's no normal time, unless you mean like 2006, where this movie would have opened to 20M+. These star vehicles don't do that big business when there are no bonafide stars in it.

The closest analogue is the 2019 Charlie's Angels movie, about 9M opening.

People forget that normal times mean much more weekly competition. So movies that were ignored during the pandemic, with much less competition than usual, certainly wouldn't break through in busy times.
