There have been two Japanese Godzilla movies where he has pink spines. That’s most likely where they drew their inspiration from.

Adam Wingard wanted to give that feeling from the 80's he had as a kid when he walked down a toy aisle and he remarked about how colorful it was during that time period.

 

He also just happens to like the color pink, citing it as his favorite.

$470M is what GvK grossed WW. Maybe the estimates you saw meant GxK "must" outgross GvK at the minimum?

Seeing this on Wednesday! Was kinda lukewarm hype wise because same GvK team (like but don't love it like the other MV) but the recent clips have been selling me hard. This movie legit just feels like an adaptation of the Pipeworks games, human scale be damned!
