The problem is that they're trying to make Dane Dehann Leo 2.0, but hes not as cute and not as talented. So it's not going to work.

DeHaan is creepy as fuck, something that Leo isn't. Also, Leo has more charisma in his pinky than 10000 DeHaan clones together. They should stop hyping actors as Next _____ based on a passing physical resemblance. I see that "Boyega is the Next Denzel" hype is brewing cause of passing resemblance in Detroit trailer.

Heck, they should end Next _____ period. It never helped anyone. Uniqueness makes a star, not being someone's copy.

I feel like whenever someone's hyped as the Next X their probability of becoming the Next X or even relevant within a few years nosedives.

yes, it's a curse. Look at Gwyneth "next Grace Kelly" Paltrow. She's more known for Goop than acting although she's a fine actress. But attempts to make her the Next Grace failed and she fizzled as a relevant actress.

Often curse stuff are people cherry picking small sample size issue, you could do it for Stallone being the next Brando according to Roger Ebert cursed him ? Shyamalan being the next Spielberg ? Stalone became the biggest movie star in the world for a while and Shyamalan look like will do extremely well for himself.

Very few of the over 100k SAG member will become legend, being compared too some on some small Internet movie bubble platform almost no one follow is not necessarily part of the reason it didn't happen.

This is NOT an independent film.

Who cares if a movie to be "considered" independent needs to have a low budget? Valerian still meets with all the others "requirements" and yes, it is an independent (highly budgeted) movie. Are you suggesting that Besson is having his film controlled by the studio? I've never read such a heretic post as yours. Forgive him, Oh, God Besson.

Btw, that's not my point. Valerian is not being released by a global distributor. They have several different distributors overseas. Marketing can be very disharmonious and the potential of the box office maybe can be limited like the movies (non-sequels) with this kind of release.
Well, but at least here, it is having a great marketing.
