Box Office: Early Returns Show 'Big Hero 6' Rocketing Past 'Interstellar' to Win Weekend

BH6 $60 million

Interstellar $50-55 million

I predicted $62 million for BH6 and $58 million for Interstellar in Panda's inaugural BOF user tracking (which yall should join), lets see how this goes.

It's weekends like this I wish we had the Derby.

Interesting

If that's right, this weekend will be only the fourth time in history that two films sharing the marquee have opened to $50 million or more. In all three previous instances, they were an animated and live-action movie — Monsters University and World War Z; Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Prometheus; and Wall-E and Wanted — and in all three cases, the animated offering won.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised that BH6 pulls out the victory, since it's a family movie and WOM likely to be less polarizing than INTERSTELLAR.

That said, I would also think that INTERSTELLAR'S IMAX must-see quotient is a factor to drive up the weekend's attendance, even if legs are a bit lacking over the next few weeks. So.
