they could have just went with a poster of nothing but the shimmer with the title and credits, which probably would have been pretty cool looking

It's a theatrical release in North America. Netflix release everywhere else.

 

It doesn't leave theaters to jump to Netflix.

The problem is that all of this release scheduling is so confusing to the general audience, which won't help its performance.

Planning to see this tonight after work. Closest theater showing it is prone to selling out so hopefully it's not too popular.

The thing with this film is, especially after reading the reviews,that it deserves to be seen on a glorious IMAX screen and not be wasted on your 4K TV.Just hope that it's equally great with its story and characters.
