I think that is where the rewrite came in. The first trailer for RN showed a scene which looks like it is right after Cruise crashes the bicycle where it looks like he is in cuffs headed into IMF. The 3rd act of RN does feel very very small in comparison to everything that came before, guessing they used the USB being copied as the divergence point.

Nice catch, good call, probably so.

This franchise is starting to resemble the Bond series in terms of longevity. Maybe another actor will pick up the mantle once Tom retires.  Perhaps Ving Rhames’ character will be the equivalent of Q. Same actor in all the movies.  :-)

Imagine if they had the balls for this: whatever the last Cruise movie is, the final scene is him pulling his mask off and revealing... the new protagonist.

"Ethan died three missions ago -- he fell off the Burj Khalifa. We decided it was best to keep his death a secret for the time being."

You just want to put Michelle Monaghan's character through a hell of a lot of emotional trauma, don't you.

If De Palma directs the last Cruise one that's probably exactly what will happen.

If the marketing remains as balls to the wall nuts as this first trailer and the film is up to par with 4 and 5, then I can see 250 happening DOM. Maybe even as high as 275. Would be awesome to see Cruise finally score a 300 grosser, but that's probably too out of reach for the franchise.

Man, the franchise/superhero age has not been kind to the movie stars on the 90's/2000's.

They are all pretty much extinct now :

Bruce Willis is now doing awful direct to streaming action films no one cares about.

God only knows what Nic Cage is doing right now ...

Will Smith is still in somewhat big projects but his cool persona has disappeared years ago ...

Jim Carrey has probably lost his marbles ...

The genre that helped to create Julia Roberts is dead.

Tom Hanks is still here but the movies that made him a superstar just don't exist anymore.

Mel Gibson well, special case, he can still direct I guess but he ll never be Mel Gibson pre-scandal again ...

Tom Cruise is the last survivor of a by-gone era.

Remember reading a Christopher Mc-Quarrie saying  it was a miracle that movies like Oblivion & Edge of Tomorrow existed because only Cruise can greelight such big projects on his name.

Cruise is also an interesting case because MI is HIS franchise, he calls all the shots on it.

So, Hail the Missile !

^^^keanu is having a nice comeback with john wick

Keanu was never a movie star the size of other actors I mentionned, sure he was(/is) a movie star, he did  big films and he had a major franchise but he never was a Tom Cruise or a Will Smith imo.

That was a great trailer (best of the ones shown during the Superbowl). Looking forward to seeing Cruise, Ferguson and Cavill in action. Also nice there acknowledging Ethan Hunt getting betrayed over and over again. Definitely has a finale feel to it but who knows. If it gets close to 700WW again they'll probably do another one.
