I'm super excited for that one, right up my alley as an Econ major. And I took a class that more or less morphed into the downfall of the stock market in 2008 so we should be speaking the same language.

In the 1:10 right now.

Same (Econ/Finance), I'm pretty excited.

I'm sure you guys will feel like parts are over-explaining stuff to us laypeople. But it is entertaining over-explanation.

I took real estate last semester so maybe I should check it out.

I think you'll probably get angry.

I hate that the few people that didn't like SW are bitching at it because it's similar to the originals, whereas in the prequels people were bitching like hell because those went away from the originals and had WAY too much exposition. Now this is closer to the originals and has less exposition (because remember......there are 2 more films) and people are bitching that it's too close. I'm sitting here thinking: WHAT DO YOU WANT????

Primary issue with the PT is shit storytelling, shit dialogue, as a result of said dialogue and effusive green screen work, shit acting.

Those that bitch the most have unreasonable expectations, but likely wanted a fresher take on the universe well told, well paced, well acted with some more impressive world building and a more expanded universe.

But, as you said, they'll likely get just that in 8 and 9. Patience is a virtue.

Is 27M OS on Friday a good number? Sounds awful!!!!!!

Christmas is not a strong day at the box office outside of America. In many countries theaters are closed. It is a good number.

I'd argue that most of the shit acting was simply the result of shit acting. Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor still fared somewhat well with what they had. But yeah I agree, the PT suffers from bad stories, bad writing and bad acting. The CGI and special effects are way down the list. If the stories were really good and there were quality performances across the board, than the effects would a much smaller gripe. Sadly, it all went wrong.

It is big.  No doubt a fantastic start.  But limited releases are very tricky.  Granted they're usually between 4-15 theaters in the NY/LA area but still even with just a 100 it's much, much easier to have a huge PTA.  And it doesn't always translate.  Steve Jobs is probably the most recent example.  I don't think H8 will suffer the same fate, Tarentino films have done really well on a large scale but just know that most of the time you can take limited releases with a grain of salt.

Um... I know that. I actually mentioned that in my very previous post in the thread -

That's really really good. Tarantino does have a big fan-base. I just hope this translates into big numbers even after going wide unlike many other films recently.

I was just commenting on its performance right now and how big it is for 100 theaters and not on its future prospects. If it gets to 56,000 PTA for the weekend it would be the only film in above 31 theaters (and even that was the blair witch project, the controversy and excitement surrounding which was massive) to ever do that, apart from that film that opened last weekend. And that's inspite of quite some disadvantages on its side.
