There is a reason for that. The entire "Why did we wake up?" is

a red herring with a bad/plot-breaking explanation

Honestly not an excuse though. Still confusing and off-putting to the consumer. They shouldve already had this figured out in the marketing plan.

Some of you are a little too obsessed with Disney animation, Moana is doing fine. The comparisons to Frozen were always insane & silly.

Moana is the new Disney's animated-musical-princess-thanksgiving movie released after Frozen. Or Frozen is the last Disney's animated-musical-princess-thanksgiving movie released before Moana. So it's the better-logical-normal-classic-intelligent comparison to do. If then, because Frozen is a too successful movie, someone prefer to compare with The Good Dinosaur or Strange Magic or Rise of The Guardians, it's ok, but more insane and silly.

In the same way, you can say that to compare TFA with R1 is insane & silly because TFA is a too successful movie?

I refuse to believe that back-end figure. That would be an insanely bad contract on Sony's part.

It is $20M against 30% of profit (in other words AFTER they break even).  And the $110M budget number after credits is consistent with numbers they have been giving all along.

They specifically wanted her, and her plan was to do indies for a while after finishing her franchises, but she loved this script.  I believe Sony saw having her as some level of insurance. I still am eager to see how it does overseas.

Unlike some who haven't seen it who don't like the plot twist, I think it gives the movie more depth.  It is a popcorn flick but a visually spectacular one with great acting.  I wouldn't be surprised at all at some tech Oscar nominations.

I also think the industry is going to need to look at the RT impact at some point, and I think this is one of a several films this year where a pile on there simply wasn't warranted.

It is an interesting question posed in the context of a thriller/romance, if I had to describe the movie. It is superficial at some points, but not unpleasantly, imho, and it is very well done.

Sony USA clearly sucks at marketing.

Solid enough for Rogue One. It was never going to have Force Awakens's extraordinary holiday staying power, so the fact that it's looking at a second weekend in the mid-to-high-60s is good.

Very good number for Sing. It's gonna slay during the week.

Passengers has been incredibly underwhelming so far, but such an outcome felt inevitable after the weak reviews began to stream in. Had the movie delivered upon its premise, I think it definitely could have soared over $100 million, even with direct competition from Rogue One.

Why Him? didn't start too badly for what looks like a very generic comedy.

Y'all need to cool off a bit about Moana. First, it's nowhere near the zeitgeist-capturing event that Frozen became three years ago, and second, it's up against another bright, fairly well-reviewed family movie that's pulling in strong business. An 8% week-to-week drop is fine, especially with the bump to come from further holiday weekdays.

La La Land held up nicely. The expansion on Sunday should bring about a strong weekend figure overall.

R1 is heading to a 3,5X to 3,75X multiplier.  Hopefully that will put an end to the whole "extraordinary legs of TFA". Simply call them what they were : Christmas legs.

I think, until we get another 250m opener with those legs, we'll keep calling them what they are: extraordinary.
