AD Astra | Sep 20 2019 | Sci Fi | Best movie of the year with a B- cinemascore? | Brad Pitt

I thought the movie was premiering later tonight.

Also I think Disney meddling may have occured. Already hearing a lot on how the movie has changed from test screenings.

On the other hand, Marriage Story is getting some good reactions so not all bad I guess.

Gray has said in interviews he's been editing / tinkering with the movie and still would be if the release date wasn't set.  It's why it missed it release date already a couple of times.

First, Ad Astra proved a complicated film to get through the post process. Originally set to release in January, the date was pushed to May and a potential Cannes slot, before finally settling on a late-September global rollout after a premiere at Venice Film Festival, which will happen Thursday on the Lido. That was, Gray says, because he was still tinkering with the picture right up until a week ago—“I would still be mixing now if I could”—with the process behind the movie’s effects work proving especially challenging to wrangle.

There are a couple of movies that I’m circling for sure, but I’m tired. I mean, when I tell you that we finished this a week and a half ago, I’m not exaggerating. They pulled the plug on the mixing. “James, that’s it, you have no more time.” I would still be mixing now, if I could

A long interview well worth reading

Where is the Marriage Story thread, BTW? Scarlett is coming for the win. praise is through the roof for her, Driver and Dern.

You know what other movie was "too long", had an "unfocused script", ans had an "inconsistent tone"?

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

You know what other movie was divisive upon its festival run and subsequent theatrical release?

2001: A Space Odyssey.

So even if critics do have some negative things to say about it, that's not going to stop me for being excited for this film. I now know to keep my hype level in check, which will only increase how much I like the film in the long run.
