filmlover
January isn't quite the total dumping ground that it used to be so I wouldn't sound the alarms just yet. They would've gone for the MLK weekend had Glass not already been placed there in all likelihood.

Probably Resident Evil numbers? I feel that taking a 'lesser' date in the US, could translate into a good date for China if it results in less competition from non-Chinese films in Chinese market. January is the worst possible date for a China release, especially since the big Chinese New Year movies release at that time. It's like releasing a Hollywood movie in India before Eid or Diwali when they will just get killed by the local movies.

Milla Jovovich is a common factor and I feel that was taken into account.

Zakiyyah6
I don't see Hellboy being a big hit no matter where it's placed. The release date is fine.

marveldcfox
Hellboy is not supposed to be so buffed...ugh...filmmakers just don't get it.
a2k
This gonna be the first R-rated Hellboy. If they have a good mix of dark humor, raunchiness and 'bloody' good action, this could surprise a lot. I can see 125m dom and 350m ww for a very well received R-rated Hellboy. And if Sin City and Deadpool were limited to a 40-60m prod budget, can't see why they need to go higher than 60-70 for this one. Resident Evil 6 was 40m too. Wouldn't it be glorious if Hellboy does 350m ww on a 70m budget (5x). shiver shiver...

Imagine how big an impact it would've had if Scarlett had bowed out of GitS for the same reason. There's no way she wasn't aware of the controversy, like, c'mon! Just proves that No wonder we got ground-breaking stuff and coming out of closet from the Daario's and not from the biggest stars. Cochofles
Question...is Hellboy supposed to be a teenager? I ask because the name "hellboy" makes me think of a young lad (and yes, I know that Hellman might remind too many people of mayo)

Arlborn
Date was previously denied by the studio but now it's been officially confirmed as the 11th of January after all. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/hellboy-reboot-sets-2019-release-date-1063083 Quote The Jan. 11, 2019 date was actually previously reported in September via Empire, but was denied by the studio at the time. I loved Hellboy II's world-building and I wonder if the aesthetics from this one will be anywhere close to that one. I doubt it but I'd like that. Cautiously optimistic about this movie anyway.
