The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Both studio and independent projections have the horror film making $60-65 million this weekend from 4,000 screens, blowing by the previous record of $48.4 million. But some trackers are expecting even bigger things for “It,” projecting results as high as $70-75 million.

Also opening this weekend is Open Road’s “Home Again,” .... The film is projected to make $10 million this weekend.

A $65 million opening is expected from 4,000 locations (3,500 spots for Thursday previews). Since early tracking pegged the movie at a $50 million opening in mid-August, the expected sum has only floated higher — some current tracking indicates an opening as high as $75 million. So all signs point to a major win for the R-rated horror pic, which was made for about an estimated $35 million.

Home Again.” The romantic comedy, which carries a price tag of about $15 million, is expected to make about $10 million from 2,940 locations.

If “It” grosses the expected $55 million in domestic ticket sales Friday through Sunday in the U.S. and Canada, it will break the record for the biggest opening weekend in September (not adjusted for inflation).

Some bullish analysts who have read pre-release audience surveys say the film, directed by Andy Muschietti, could even hit the $70-million mark in its first weekend.

“Home Again” is expected to gross roughly $10 million

IT is now 59% sales on Movietickets.

I honestly think Fandango box meter is better because you can see what and how fast the tickets are selling - compare it to how fast tickets were selling for another movie 2 days before realse.. Whereas on Movetickets the % could just be really high because there's really no other movie people are buying tickets for, which is probably the case right now with how dry the box office is.

63.5% now and Fandango sales 93-94 per minute now (373 in 4 minutes...have to quickly eyeball a row, too fast to count individual)

                                           Sold                 Available Total        Percent Sold

It

417 1,974 21.1%

1. IT is 10 seats behind Wonder Woman for most available total seats.

2. It has surpassed Dunkirk (371), Alien: Covenant (415), Annabelle: Creation (385), and Despicable Me 3 (412).

3. I don't think it will reach Wonder Woman height (1,270) but I think it will definitely hit or get close to Pirates 5 (778).

4. This is amazing for a horror film!
