The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

15:17 to Paris is probably the worst movie I have ever seen (that does not include ironically bad movies like The Room).

Eastwood is all over the place lol, he can make some really great movies (Million Dollar Baby had be blubbering like a child at the end), and even his mid-tier stuff is solid and well-made (Richard Jewell) but when he misses, he MISSES.

It's gonna combine with Hillbilly Elegy in the future for a "not every person's story deserves to be made into a movie" double feature.

That was an unbelievable bad day for both newbies.
Copshop counted today at 10am EST for Thursday:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 5 (3 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
3 (2 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 0 (2 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 0 (1 showtime)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11):
0 (2 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 3 (2 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 7 (3 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 18.

Comps: Angel has Fallen had on Monday of its release week 199 sold tickets for Thursday and that without the AMC in NY.
21 Bridges had on Tuesday for Thursday 183 sold tickets.

Copshop counted today at 10am EST for Friday:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 4 (4 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
1 (3 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 0 (3 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 2 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 0 (2 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 2 (2 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 2 (3 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 11.

Comps: Angel has Fallen had on Monday of its release week 136 sold tickets for Friday in 6 theaters (again without NY)

and 21 Bridges had on Tuesday for Friday 193 sold tickets.

Yes, AhF was a walk-up beast but that Copshop has sold 1/10 of it at the moment is just a terrible start. At least I remember that Hunter Killer improved a lot (still in Pulse times) over the last 1-2 days and AhF also had a x4 factor.

Cry Macho counted today at 10am EST for Friday:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 6 (4 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
1 (2 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 2 (3 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): no showtimes so far
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 0 (2 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 3 (2 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 5 (2 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 17 .
Very very meager too.

Comps: Because mentioned by @LegendaryBen:
Those Who Wish Me Dead had on Tuesday (the day I started to track again) 72 sold tickets in 4 theaters (the AMCs in NY, Arizona, San Francisco and California so vs 14 sold tickets for Cry Macho),
Reminiscence had on Monday for Friday 119
and Malignant had also on Monday for Friday 100 sold tickets.
I'm not sure if those comps are really the best but it's not that easy to find a fitting comp for Cry Macho anyway.
I also try The Good Liar (5.6M OW) which had on Monday for Friday 26 sold tickets in 6 theaters,

Stillwater (5.2M) which had 17 sold tickets in 5 theaters (so there's some hope left for Cry Macho)

and Richard Jewell (4.7M) which had on Wednesday for Friday 149 sold tickets in 5 theaters.
So many lines on my part today for so few sold tickets .

Got a feeling the reviews for Cry Macho won't be especially good (hence the complete dump) but hey, there's no way it (or anything, really) will be as unwatchable as The 15:17 to Paris.

I could be misremembering but didn’t they do the same thing for The Mule? Although this has barely any marketing, like all the non tentpole HBO Max films this year.

The Mule's reviews were embargoed until very late but it was aggressively advertised (including a great trailer) leading up to its release. Plus it also had BCoop (who was both coming off of A Star Is Born and reuniting with Clint after American Sniper) and there was a general sense that it might have been what was going to be Clint's swan song (at least as an actor), considering it was his first time in front of the camera in six years (Trouble with the Curve, which fizzled, but that also opened around the same time the infamous "chair" debacle at the RNC made him a punchline so expectations for it were low to begin with) and he's been at the age where each new project carries the risk of being his last for a while.

@Shawn any chance there will be a long range forecast coming soon?

We got one just 3 days ago that went through venom, so at best you could get a NTTD update this Friday but I’d guess they’ll wait 2 weeks for HWK.

Black Panther 43% February in recent times.

Current Sep:

SC 144.5M

nonSC 88M

last 6 days (to exclude Labor Mon):

SC 50M

nonSC 26.2M+2.1M+2.2M+2.7M=33.2M

SC will do I suppose 63M. These other holdovers include some that should have even better legs (FG+SC+PP etc) and some that should have worse, call it maybe 40M. Then SC 208 vs nonSC 128M.

Openers:

Tammy Faye — 3M

Blue Bayou — 2M

Copshop — 6M

Cry Macho — 10M
Dear Evan Hansen — 14M

miscellaneous smallball shit— 4M

SC could do about 208/(208+128+39)=55% of Sep.
