The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

BW is an awful comp. SC and TSS are pretty bad, but ya work with what you’ve got. F9 seems pretty decent, I wouldn’t be surprised if V2 had a bigger % growth on the final 4 days… but also wouldn’t be too surprised if it had lower.

Uhhh...yeah, it's not even worth comping. I don't even think we're gonna get preview #s for this, but it is in like 2,500 theaters or something, so...nyehhhhhh.

Dear Evan Hansen also isn't confirmed for Dolby yet here. Shang-Chi will probably end up keeping Dolby at some locations next week if tracking stays low for DEH

Yeah, it's been removed from pretty much all of the PLF auditoriums it was initially set for around where I am as well and will just play in regular auditoriums.

Feel like we'll all need to owe In the Heights an apology if this somehow does even worse than that did despite being a theatrical exclusive.

Or that Shang Chi's demo was exactly who is going, and the other movies are hitting all the demos that aren't...

I will say, Venom will do well for the same reason, although I haven't seen some folks guesses, but BoxOfficePro's tracking would be a "good result" and one I think is eminently doable...

Venom and Bond will be fine (even if the latter may or may not live up to its full potential given the uncertainty over its main demographic returning to theaters). Dune and Halloween should do decent enough numbers despite their availability to watch at home the same day since there are audiences eager to see them on the big screen. DEH flopping wouldn't cause anyone to lose any sleep since Broadway adaptations tend to miss more than they hit + it's a movie about teen suicide with lousy reviews (if it weren't based on a famous IP we'd be talking about an easy sub-$10M total there).

Venom I still think will do 50/135 numbers, but that’s honestly not far off where I had it pre-pandemic.

I have NTTD at Spectre numbers. Pre-pandemic I would have had it a little higher (maybe 90/250) but it’s not a bad drop.

Dune is doing BR2049 numbers, but it was always going to.

Halloween is going to flop (25/60), streaming is going to kill it.

Why do you say that?

No time to die tickets haven't even gone on sale yet in the US, and it seems to be selling well thus far in the UK.

And again, I do believe Venom 2 will pick up in the last week, but I digress about that. It seems like that fan screening is really out drum up buzz
