Just Mercy, counted a bit earlier today, had 318/510 sold tickets. For comparison, 21 Bridges had on Thursday 346/475 sold tickets, Black and Blue 244/262.

Underwater, also counted a bit earlier, had today 239/260 sold tickets in still 9 theaters (without San Francisco). For comparison: Charlie's Angels had on Thursday 344/550 sold tickets (without SF 246/383), Crawl 417/334 (without SF 326/251).

1917, counted today at 11am EST:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): no showtimes (!)
Boston (AMC Assembly Row 12): 175 (total tickets sold for Thursday) / 269 (total tickets sold for Friday, 6 showtimes)
Boston (Boston Common 19): 139 / 189 (10 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 124 / 280 (7 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 35 / 53 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): showtimes): - / 44 (4 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Center Point 11): 69 / 77 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 287 / 229 (10 showtimes)
LA (AMC Bay Street): 131 / 182 (9 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 364 / 377 (9 showtimes)
Total tickets sold in 8/9 theaters till today for Thursday: 1.374 and for Friday: 1.700.

Comps: Midway had on Thursday 398/497 sold tickets, Angel has Fallen 654/580 and Ford v Ferrari (31.5M OW) had 1.116/1.516 (without NY 1.001/1.360).
So (also) in my theaters it's in front of F v F. Both movies counted without NY would at the moment indeed mean an OW for 1917 of ca. 40M.
And if it would follow AHF or Midway walk up-wise it would do great anyway.

Can you add few Regals as we dont have data from Regal.

Unfortunately Regal theaters don't work for me, probably because of my habitat. The page where you can choose your seat mostly isn't openable and if I log in I see the prize list first and can not go on...
Edit: E.g. today it worked when I selected 1 ticket and pushed "next" but this is not always the case.

2.850x of Ford v Ferrari (5.98M)

4.797x of Neighborhood (4.32M)

Well shit. With numbers like these, 45M isn't even out of the question. Of course anything over 30M would be an amazing accomplishment, and that's not to say this movie is doing bad if it doesn't hit these high numbers, but the potential looks to be there.

Decided to drop the other comps, since I feel like they'll be way too low. Guess that number is fine enough for a low teens opening, which is passable enough for comedies these days

The loss of seats is due to some of the showings moving to smaller auditoriums. But nothing to really worry about. The comps fell back down to Earth a little bit. But I'm still pretty confident in it hitting 4M previews. Even if it has late walkups as poor as Terminator, it'll still get close. But I think it'll have better walkups. So I'll go with 4.05M

Quick update on 1917 prev.

its at  46965/132146 679959.96(779 shows). it increased slightly less than what I expected. I would say range is ~ 3.3m depending on how much MTC1 overindexes.

Comps

Knives Out Final -   43016/108056 538765.71 (773 shows)

Ford vs Ferrari Final31459/161048 474271.77 (874 shows)

Knives out had early screenings and somehow over indexed big time at MTC1. Hope that does not happen for 1917.

@keysersoze123 Are you still seeing a show count problem with regards to 1917 getting to $40M or is that becoming more plausible now?

Release is not huge but its possible to hit 40m if it fills up its prime time shows.

 OD PS - 45576/412075 676996.13 (2188 shows)

it needs to triple its PS by end of day tomorrow to hit double digits pure friday. it needs 11-12m true friday to keep 40m in play as sunday drop will be big. So let us wait and watch how things go.

Out of reactions, but thank you for the response. Indeed, we'll see. Really rooting for over $40M though. It would make for one of the top January openings (I count wide expansions as "openings").

Why the heck does Universal not seem to care about marketing a 200M tentpole? Even if its bad, as long as they could get word out, RDJ and the barren January for families could at least pull better numbers than the movie seems to be targeting now.

It does not look impressive, but is it really not caring type of spending ?:

With a big last week it could match up 1917 on the tv side though.

Universal seems to usually spends quite a bit on TV advertising. I remember Mortal Engines topping ad spending and we know what happened.
