I can only speak for Ontario as different provinces have different rules. I don't know if any other provinces have opened theatres yet (Quebec maybe?), but from what we are hearing here Theatres are in phase 3 as we are about to enter phase 1 with 3 weeks between. Im thinking Early to mid July Theatres in Ontario may finally get open for business. As for rest of Canada, each province has different opening strategies. Porthos response I added details down below.

TL DR: Our province had some issues getting early vacc started.

Sorry it took a couple of days to respond been busy around here lol.

Canada is being way too risk-averse. A simple 33% capacity control and mask mandate can mitigate much of the risk.

Man that's awful this early

While I don't know how useful a AQP II comp would be (that's why I ain't doing it right now), in Sacto:

AQP II [adj] comp:  656/362 ≈ 1.81 x AQP 2 ≈ 8.698m which is pretty in line with Denver.

If I want to throw caution to the wind and adjust to hell and back and use a King of the Monsters comp (which is easily the "best" [ie not at all] comp I have right now [due to the fact that GvK had a much different presale pattern])...

KotM [adj] comp: 650/372 ≈ 1.75 x KotM ≈ 11m.  Then take that 11m x .9 [for lack of much of Canada] ≈ 9.9m.  That is better... except FF9 has more days of presales than KotM did (6 days versus 2 days), so we're back to a less than stellar start.

Picture will keep coming into focus as the days go on, but for now it ain't exactly breaking many posted speed limit signs locally.

you did track Hobbs and Shaw I think. Can use that.

if AQP2 comp is 9M this early, that gotta be really bad because AQP2 isnt supposed to be that fan heavy and more backloaded PS.

I also tracked Hobbs and Shaw, and as of 2 days ago(T-19 days), the comp is at 11.08M. Take Canada into account, and it’d be around 10M. Don’t have another comp until T-16 and didn’t start tracking again until T-6 days.

Looking back at Hobbs and Shaw #s. The late-est Porthos did was T-7 days, which itself was sort of Ehh. I mean can work out T-8 days as well at 382.

H&S did practically nothing at the start tho.  Also had about two more weeks of presales than F9 has (edit, 11 days more of presales for H&S to be exact).

*check*

Snerk.  Even with the eleven day head start for H&S, F9 is about 3.25x H&S at T-18 (yes, I have that data on my home sheets).  Or, after all adjusting: 16.95m

"press X to doubt" as the youngin's say.

Eh, I think F9 might be following the more classic "U" shape in presales (heavy at the start, long valley, ramp up at the end).  F9's problem is that it wasn't all that strong at the beginning and we have no idea how strong it will be at the end.

Compared to Wednesday, In the Heights went up by 49 tickets. Hopefully, it trending better than PR2 is a great sign of a breakout.

Update for my area this Friday (Thursday showings for ITH still haven't been posted):

In the Heights:

4:00: 9/107

5:00 Dolby: 24/236

6:00 IMAX: 6/372

7:30: 2/107

8:30 Dolby: 20/236

Total: 61/1,058

Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard Early Access: 10/107

The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks:

4:40: 2/70

7:10: 3/70

Total: 5/140

The late IMAX showing has been cancelled, so I guess hours are changing yet again from the past two weeks. Comparisons:

35% of AQP2's Friday the day before (6.8M Friday)

57% of AQP2's previews two days out (2.7M Friday)

74% of Cruella's Friday the day before (5.7M Friday)

290% of Cruella's previews two days out (7M Friday)

210% of Conjuring 3 five days out (20.6M Friday)

Cruella is probably the best comparison given the walkup nature + audience/genre gap of Conjuring (and to a lesser extent AQP). So far, these are really encouraging sales as long as walkups are good.

In the Heights, counted today at 10am EST:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 84 (7 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
96 (5 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18):
6 (3 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9):
13 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11):
0 (1 showtime)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 143 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal):
240 (5 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in
7 theaters for June 11: 582.
Up 23% since Friday. AQP II had on Monday of its release week 747 sold tickets and The Conjuring 3 had 641 sold tickets. The Thursday previews of In the Heights in LA jumped from 55 last Monday to now 246 sold tickets (up 437%). AQP II had on Monday in LA 296 tickets sold for its Thursday previews.
Other comps: Blinded by the Light (4.3M OW) had 102 sold tickets in 6 theaters (so here 582 tickets minus NY = 498) the last time I counted it which was on Thursday, 1 day before its Friday shows.
Cats (6.6M OW) sold 150 tickets in 6 theaters (again 582 tickets minus NY = 498) on Monday of its release week and for its Thursday previews in LA 67 tickets (would mean around 25M+ at the moment for In the Heights but reviews, fan anticipation and WOM are/will be very different of course).
Overall Idk. The Friday jump could have been better but the Thursday jump is very good. Maybe people realized that this film has previews and pick them (e.g. it has now Thursday shows in Arizona and NY). The next days will bring more clarity, hopefully ;).
